[00:01:57] They didn't get as many great looks as I would have liked to have seen.

[00:02:44] It just didn't feel like anything really good was going to come out of it.

[00:02:51] They had a chance to win the game.

[00:02:53] I just really thought, like I said, first and third specifically, I thought, just looked really sloppy.

[00:02:57] And look, I mean, I knew from minute one that Jack had his foot on the gas a little too hard for this game.

[00:03:05] What wound up happening in the overtime period?

[00:03:10] Like, you're not going to take that away from Jack.

[00:03:20] But I did notice it throughout the whole game that he was really trying to take this game over on his own.

[00:03:27] And it did kind of hurt us in the end.

[00:03:30] But I would never care if Jack's going to give that kind of effort.

[00:03:33] I mean, before you jump in, Tim, I just want to just about that.

[00:03:37] Like, I absolutely agree with you.

[00:03:41] And there were even times before that overtime that, you know, I'm kind of just saying to my TV, like, just let everyone else do what they're going to do here, Jack.

[00:03:49] You know, he's got to be in every single play.

[00:03:53] Like, there were even a couple of times where, like, passes, like, coming out of the defensive zone and coming into the neutral zone.

[00:04:00] Like, you know, they kind of take it slow.

[00:04:02] And they'd like to get Jack to kind of bring it in.

[00:04:05] But there were a couple of times that, like, the pass was going to, like, a defenseman or going to Brad where he just kind of scooped up and took it.

[00:04:12] And you can kind of tell, like, you know, that he's like, no, I'm the fucking man.

[00:04:16] And he is the man.

[00:04:18] And, you know, I love him.

[00:04:20] But there are certain he's got to just kind of learn that you can't do it all by yourself.

[00:04:25] That's why that there's a team.

[00:04:26] And, you know, but when you're that good, you're the best player out there.

[00:04:32] Like, Tim, when you play, you know, beer league hockey, like, I'm sure everybody else is better than you.

[00:04:48] And not just on the ice, more on this podcast and probably in life in general.

[00:05:27] You know, I think one of the things that I'm looking for in games, you know, they completely kind of lost their way.

[00:05:35] The back-to-back to Carolina and the back-to-back to Anaheim and then L.A.

[00:05:40] You know, that was, you know, full schedule guy.

[00:05:44] I would have liked to see them get that Ducks game.

[00:05:46] That sucked.

[00:05:47] But then they're in San Jose.

[00:05:48] And then in Seattle, their game started to come back a little bit in certain stretches.

[00:05:53] But there's still that sloppiness there.

[00:05:55] So, what I was looking for is kind of is the process getting back to the way it was.

[00:06:00] Or, you know, kind of what is the identity of this team.

[00:06:03] And through the first two periods, they were much better defensively.

[00:06:08] And much better at kind of controlling the play.

[00:06:12] Particularly five-on-five, like you mentioned.

[00:06:13] You know, we'll get into the power play and the penalty kill in a little bit.

[00:06:16] But, you know, they really – they basically kept the Rangers to under almost half an expected goal at five-on-five for the first two periods.

[00:06:29] Their second period in particular was really strong.

[00:06:31] I thought from about seven, eight minutes into the period through the end of it, they didn't give up a single expected goal.

[00:06:38] Or didn't – you know, the Rangers didn't register enough to get even registered an expected goal on five-on-five.

[00:06:43] So, that was pretty good.

[00:06:44] But the wheels just absolutely fell off in the third period.

[00:06:47] The beginning of that third period was some of the worst stretch of hockey I've seen them play.

[00:06:52] Like, the first ten minutes, they were just pinned in the zone just chasing shit around.

[00:06:58] And it was awful.

[00:06:59] I have no idea what happened to their game.

[00:07:02] But they got out of it.

[00:07:03] And they kind of locked it down for the last couple minutes.

[00:07:06] And really, I don't know if we necessarily deserved to get that overtime point, to be honest.

[00:07:10] But they got it.

[00:07:11] And, you know, I think the process is getting back to being better.

[00:07:15] And you can see that in some of their sort of moving averages, some of their metric charts.

[00:07:20] Like, they're kind of back on the upswing after going down.

[00:07:23] Honestly, I hate to blame a road trip.

[00:07:25] But I think the way that road trip and that schedule in particular kind of worked itself out.

[00:07:30] So, I think a lot can be laid at the feet of the schedule guy.

[00:07:34] But you can't necessarily use that as an excuse, but it can be a reason.

[00:07:38] Well, it's like the old adage, right?

[00:07:40] If you're going to suck, suck on the road.

[00:07:42] And the Devils kind of did that.

[00:07:45] You know, possible 12 points.

[00:07:46] We walked away with three.

[00:07:47] That's not a very positive or, you know, good-looking road trip.

[00:07:52] But at the same time, like, I thought that the way that they played for most of the Ranger game, I just –

[00:07:59] it's so easy to come back from these road trips out west.

[00:08:02] And they're long.

[00:08:03] You know, you're out there for six games.

[00:08:05] You're out there for almost, what, a week and a half, two weeks.

[00:08:08] You know, you're not home.

[00:08:09] And then you still – you're like almost home, but you're not home because, you know,

[00:08:13] you can stand at MSG and most of the guys can see their condos from there.

[00:08:18] And it's like – but we're still not home.

[00:08:20] You're probably more annoyed that you're in New York.

[00:08:23] I thought they played for the last game of that road trip, which was a tough one.

[00:08:28] You know, and also, like you mentioned, like, the scheduling, Tim.

[00:08:32] You've got to also remember where this road trip fell, like, right after the holidays.

[00:08:36] Like, you know, this is also a time where you probably wanted to be home a little bit more.

[00:08:41] You know, you have, you know, your family coming and friends coming.

[00:08:44] You're constantly busy.

[00:08:45] And then, oh, yeah, we have to play hockey during all this.

[00:08:49] So, I think the road trip – I'm glad that – I feel like we kind of got fucked in the schedule since game one.

[00:08:55] But now, hopefully, you know, it's behind us.

[00:08:59] But, yeah, I mean, it just sucks losing to the fucking Rangers.

[00:09:03] And I really – I thought that they were winning this game.

[00:09:06] I thought come over time that they were going to bury it and it was just going to be another W against the Rangers and move on.

[00:09:14] I hate that we even gave them fucking two points.

[00:09:17] I hate it.

[00:09:18] I think we've got to come to grips with the fact that we're not the three-on-three Dynamo we used to be.

[00:09:24] I think we all just keep – I'm still in that mindset.

[00:09:44] But I think that kind of the game that he was having, making some poor decisions – and he had a bad first period.

[00:09:52] I didn't really notice him all that much in the third.

[00:09:54] But those mistakes in overtime, he's trying to kind of make up for it and trying to probably take this I own the Rangers thing a little too much.

[00:10:03] And he owned up for it.

[00:10:04] But you want your best players to do best player shit.

[00:10:06] So I'm kind of okay with him pushing the envelope at five-on-five and in overtime doing that.

[00:10:14] Where I did have a problem with it was on the power play.

[00:10:17] A power play is designed to be a man advantage and not be twice on zone entries.

[00:10:24] He tried to go one-on-four.

[00:10:26] And you just – use Brad.

[00:10:29] Use Nason.

[00:10:30] That's the design zone entry.

[00:10:32] I get you're trying to kind of do things maybe a little bit differently because our power play has been a little bit off.

[00:10:38] But trying to play hero ball at that point, I just don't – I think that was pretty misguided.

[00:10:43] And it's funny because Jack doesn't do that a ton or at least I don't notice it a ton.

[00:10:49] But I think a lot of the hype against the Rangers and it being who it is, this, you know, the biggest rivalry.

[00:10:55] All everybody talks about is how Jack owns the Rangers.

[00:10:59] And I think there is a little bit of that, you know, I'm going to kind of dive into that mystique and that persona as the Ranger killer.

[00:11:08] Like, look what I can do.

[00:11:09] So, and, you know, you do enough, but you have to depend on the other four guys out there with you.

[00:11:15] And I thought, especially on the power play, Tim, I completely forgot about that until you say at least two or three times.

[00:11:24] And it's like that's not a recipe for success.

[00:12:02] Plus, if there's ever a game to be aggressive, extra aggressive, it's an away game in overtime.

[00:20:52] And another guy in Utica that has seemed to have come out of his shell has been playing very well.

[00:20:59] And I believe he has something like seven points in nine games or nine points in seven games.
