Crazy Night @ The Rock

In this episode the guys break down the wild game against the Capitols. Casey gets sent down so what does that mean for our defensive reinforcements? Stank "Maven" Fischler goes nuclear on the Cha-Ching King

[00:00:06] Hey everyone, Mr. Devil here, Kenny Danico, three-time Stanley Cup champion of the New Jersey Devils.

[00:00:12] You're listening to the Uncle Puckers, New Jersey Devils Podcast with Chris, Dan, Bobby, and Tony, the Uncle Puckers.

[00:00:20] Let's go Devils!

[00:00:24] Alright boys, sit back, relax, take a deep breath.

[00:00:28] We're going to, it's a little triggering of a show.

[00:00:31] We're going to talk about that Washington game on Saturday night.

[00:00:34] So hopefully, you know, we don't all lose our shit over that.

[00:00:38] I don't know what that was.

[00:00:40] I mean, I'll say it was a fun game, but there's a lot to dive into.

[00:00:43] We're the Uncle Puckers, Bob, Tony, Chris with you this evening.

[00:00:47] Let's just, I guess, should we dive right in?

[00:00:49] Or you guys want to talk about, you know, football first?

[00:00:55] No, not football.

[00:00:57] I don't want to go, listen.

[00:00:59] I don't want to talk about that either.

[00:01:01] See, because Tony, I start every show now talking about my mood, right?

[00:01:04] And I don't want to get into the mood yet.

[00:01:05] I have a poll that I need to ask you guys.

[00:01:09] You're going to actually figure this argument out for me because I had to have Tony on the

[00:01:13] show for this and Tony might have to leave before us.

[00:01:15] So let's do this first.

[00:01:17] Having an argument, not an argument, a disagreement with my wife regarding shows, concerts.

[00:01:24] I maintain that you can be a show or a concert.

[00:01:29] So you, concerts can be shows, but not all shows are concerts.

[00:01:33] I.e., you see a band in a bar.

[00:01:36] That is a show.

[00:01:37] That is not a concert.

[00:01:39] You see a band in even a slightly larger venue.

[00:01:44] It's a show, but not a concert.

[00:01:46] So you're saying that doesn't get to...

[00:01:48] Where do you guys stand on this?

[00:01:48] Like how, what's the capacity that switches it to concert for you?

[00:01:54] It doesn't have to be a...

[00:01:56] I don't know.

[00:01:56] It could be in the small thousands.

[00:01:58] Like there are like performing arts centers and stuff that will still be a concert.

[00:02:02] But I don't feel like a two-story bar is a concert.

[00:02:08] I've never gone to the Stone Pony to see a concert, but I have gone many a time to see a show.

[00:02:14] That's a perfect example.

[00:02:15] So I get what you're saying on this, and I think there is some validity to it.

[00:02:19] So yeah, I mean, I would never go to, like you said, the Pony and be like, oh, I saw a great concert at the Stone Pony last night.

[00:02:26] You would never do that.

[00:02:28] So what do you think, Tone?

[00:02:29] That's right.

[00:02:31] But there is all those old posters, man, from back in the day when like the Doors used to play like the whiskey or something like that.

[00:02:38] And it always said in concert.

[00:02:39] So I don't know, man.

[00:02:40] I see what you're saying.

[00:02:41] Okay.

[00:02:42] Okay.

[00:02:42] And I look at the old...

[00:02:44] Well, okay.

[00:02:45] See, Tone is coming from the standpoint of just realizing now he's never actually performed at a concert.

[00:02:51] He's only performing shows.

[00:02:52] I've only played on shows and bar mitzvahs.

[00:02:55] That's pretty much...

[00:02:56] Yeah, you guys are huge in the bar mitzvah circle.

[00:02:58] You know, I've heard that.

[00:03:00] Yeah, exactly.

[00:03:01] So yeah.

[00:03:02] But I mean, if you think about it, if you look at old posters and old concerts, especially from back in the 70s and stuff, they always say live in concert.

[00:03:09] And even if it was a small bar or...

[00:03:11] We don't have to agree on the semantics of it.

[00:03:13] The bottom line was are all shows concerts.

[00:03:17] And I say no.

[00:03:18] It's their shows.

[00:03:19] Tony, what do you say?

[00:03:21] Right.

[00:03:22] I see what you're saying.

[00:03:23] Yeah, I get it.

[00:03:24] Yeah, well, I think I'm going to a concert.

[00:03:25] If I'm going to see like...

[00:03:26] If you're going to see Billy Joel, you're going to see a concert.

[00:03:28] Right.

[00:03:29] If you're going to watch the Jimmy Buffett band, fake band at the bar down the street, you're probably not so much going to a concert.

[00:03:36] My wife cited the level of the artist.

[00:03:40] Like in her example, it was if I'm seeing Eddie Vedder at a bar because he's just so big or even Pearl Jam altogether, that is a concert because of his level of entertainment.

[00:03:51] And I maintained no.

[00:03:52] I said no.

[00:03:53] That is still just a show.

[00:03:54] An intimate show, an awesome show, probably the best show you're ever going to see.

[00:03:58] But it's not a concert.

[00:03:59] Is your wife into the same music as you, Bobby?

[00:04:02] Are you guys into the same concert?

[00:04:03] More or less.

[00:04:04] A lot of it.

[00:04:05] Not everything.

[00:04:05] I agree with you because, yeah, I totally agree with you.

[00:04:08] I think that there is definitely a distinction between them.

[00:04:11] So, yeah, I'm going to go with you on that, Bob.

[00:04:13] I think you're right.

[00:04:14] I think your wife's wrong.

[00:04:16] I like it.

[00:04:17] Well, now we know it's the gospel.

[00:04:19] So, I'm good.

[00:04:21] Now, Bobby, let's talk some baseball really fast here, Matt.

[00:04:23] All right.

[00:04:24] I guess we can.

[00:04:24] You know, I mean, I think I don't even know who I'd rather.

[00:04:28] As a Yankee fan, I don't know who I'd rather play, actually, because I think the Dodgers are tough as shit.

[00:04:33] But I think I'd probably rather play the Mets, even though the Mets were a good team this year.

[00:04:38] But I felt bad for you yesterday, you know, because I know you are lifelong since I've known you, a big Mets fan.

[00:04:45] Did you expect – what did you feel yesterday morning when you woke up?

[00:04:48] Did you feel you guys were going to get in or did you kind of have a –

[00:04:52] I honestly felt it was an extremely hard uphill climb.

[00:04:55] I didn't know if we were going to win the series, but I thought advantage Mets for game six.

[00:04:58] Bullpen game for the Dodgers.

[00:05:00] Our ace.

[00:05:01] I just thought it wasn't going to be this typical blowout scenario, at least with L.A. scoring a lot of runs.

[00:05:07] So I had a lot of confidence they were going to win yesterday.

[00:05:09] It really sucked that they didn't.

[00:05:10] I was totally distracted anyway at my kids' first, like, away late night hockey game.

[00:05:16] So I was only watching the scores and not getting all emotionally involved until I got home to finish it.

[00:05:21] But it's tough, man.

[00:05:22] You know, you don't expect too much.

[00:05:24] They had to go through so much just to get there.

[00:05:26] And then you went around in the second round, and you're in the third round.

[00:05:29] The possibility is there.

[00:05:30] And you really – your emotions really start to get into it because now you want it.

[00:05:33] Now it's like, oh, my God.

[00:05:34] Get that close.

[00:05:35] You want to get to the show.

[00:05:37] Yeah.

[00:05:38] You want to do it now.

[00:05:39] And I posted – like on Facebook, dude.

[00:05:42] Like it was almost half my lifetime ago that I was at Shea Stadium watching the Mets and Yankees in the World Series.

[00:05:49] It's been 25 years or 24 years.

[00:05:52] And I was super excited about that.

[00:05:53] Another kick at the can against Big Brother.

[00:05:55] You know, I really wanted to see what we can do.

[00:05:58] You know, but they played well.

[00:06:00] They had a really good team.

[00:06:02] Do you root for the Yankees now?

[00:06:03] Or do you –

[00:06:03] I mean, it's going to be tough.

[00:06:04] I don't –

[00:06:05] It's going to be tough.

[00:06:06] But I mean, Yankees –

[00:06:06] I don't like the fact that, you know, the Yankees have won so many championships.

[00:06:11] If you're not a Yankee fan, you know, everyone's kind of like, yeah, whatever with the Yankees.

[00:06:14] But it's been a long time since they won.

[00:06:15] But I'm just so steadfast against the Dodgers right now and what they do with the way they pull in people.

[00:06:21] Chris and I talked about it on one of the shows.

[00:06:23] The money they hand out is just overly ridiculous for certain players.

[00:06:27] I'm steadfast against that $750 million for Otani even if he's the best player.

[00:06:32] You didn't need to triple up all the other best players in the league.

[00:06:34] And I just don't like that.

[00:06:36] You know, I told Chris, you know, when people were going to Detroit all the time to win Stanley Cups,

[00:06:39] yeah, they were getting paid well.

[00:06:40] But they were really going there to win Stanley Cups.

[00:06:42] I feel like people were just going to the Dodgers because the Dodgers were just buying everybody.

[00:06:46] And for that, I don't want them to ever win.

[00:06:47] So go Yankees.

[00:06:48] That bat that Soto had the other night, that was like –

[00:06:51] I think of like some of the major bats watching the Yankees growing up.

[00:06:54] Like that was one of them, man.

[00:06:56] He was just not going to get out.

[00:06:58] Like he was just fouling that ball.

[00:06:59] And you could just – it was pretty massive.

[00:07:01] I love his head shake.

[00:07:03] He just kept shaking his head.

[00:07:04] Yeah, yeah, give it.

[00:07:04] Bring it on.

[00:07:05] Come on.

[00:07:05] Bring it on.

[00:07:06] He's going to look great in a Mets uniform next year.

[00:07:08] So thank you.

[00:07:10] Chris, obviously yesterday, man.

[00:07:12] I think of you too, buddy.

[00:07:13] I know that.

[00:07:13] You guys.

[00:07:14] Yeah, they blew it.

[00:07:15] They just blew it.

[00:07:17] Like they had – the Vikings had every opportunity to win that game.

[00:07:20] Did not play that clean of a game.

[00:07:22] Tons of pre-snap penalties.

[00:07:24] Just a bunch of bullshit.

[00:07:26] That last drive, you got to make that first down.

[00:07:29] You cannot give the ball.

[00:07:31] As soon as they were punting, a minute left, you're done.

[00:07:34] You're losing by two.

[00:07:35] You had to sustain that drive.

[00:07:38] And they didn't do it.

[00:07:40] And, you know, just you saw where it was going to go.

[00:07:42] I like this team.

[00:07:44] They're really good.

[00:07:45] But they're – you know, there's some talk.

[00:07:47] And I don't know how I feel about it.

[00:07:51] About possibly making a trade with the Rams to bring Matt Stafford into Minnesota and just basically swap out Darnold for Stafford.

[00:07:59] If Matt Stafford was the Minnesota Vikings quarterback, and I'm not shitting on Sam Darnold.

[00:08:04] He's a fine quarterback.

[00:08:05] He's doing a very good job this year.

[00:08:09] But Matt Stafford takes you to a different level.

[00:08:11] Well, whether or not they do it, I don't know.

[00:08:14] But if you believe that you can win a championship this year, I think Matt Stafford's got to come over here and do it.

[00:08:20] I don't think they're going to make the move.

[00:08:21] But it would be interesting to see.

[00:08:23] I also think that if J.J. McCarthy was quarterbacking this team, I think they'd have a better chance of winning the Super Bowl.

[00:08:30] But we'll see.

[00:08:33] Yesterday, I thought it was a great game.

[00:08:34] I just thought Detroit looked – when I say they looked a little bit better, it was more, like you said, the mistakes.

[00:08:40] There was a little bit less – especially in that second half.

[00:08:42] Like I was like, well, this is a game the Vikings should probably lose.

[00:08:45] Like if you look at the actual game.

[00:08:47] But I didn't know if they were going to because the Vikings have – you know, they've done what good teams do.

[00:08:52] They've won the games even that maybe they should have lost.

[00:08:55] But yesterday, I thought – yeah, I said, well, Detroit looks a little bit better.

[00:08:59] Especially with some of the six.

[00:08:59] I agree.

[00:09:00] I agree.

[00:09:00] They were better.

[00:09:01] I mean, when you have four drives in a row and you're going down for touchdowns on all of them.

[00:09:05] I mean, yes, after that, the defense got that huge pick six.

[00:09:10] I'm sorry, scoop and score.

[00:09:11] It wasn't a pick six.

[00:09:12] Which was awesome.

[00:09:13] Now you're in the game.

[00:09:14] You got the lead.

[00:09:15] You got to learn how to finish those games.

[00:09:18] And that's the one thing that I think the Vikings are still learning.

[00:09:21] It's early in the season.

[00:09:23] I think they're going to be fine.

[00:09:24] But you got to learn how to finish those games.

[00:09:27] That's it.

[00:09:28] It's amazing.

[00:09:29] I did like seeing Devontae Adams lose to the Steelers twice.

[00:09:33] And my Raiders sucked this year.

[00:09:35] It's an awful year.

[00:09:35] It's the worst Raider team I've seen in a long time.

[00:09:37] But I did like seeing him walk off the field in a Jets uniform.

[00:09:40] I'm so –

[00:09:41] Losing because –

[00:09:42] I'm so done with the fucking Jets.

[00:09:44] I'm done with Aaron Rodgers.

[00:09:46] I'm done with Devontae Adams and just quit on the Raiders.

[00:09:49] And miraculously, his hamstring is okay for Sunday night.

[00:09:53] That's what I said to my wife.

[00:09:54] Yeah.

[00:09:55] I mean that's just bullshit.

[00:09:56] And it was just awesome to see Aaron Rodgers struggling again.

[00:10:02] I'm done with him.

[00:10:04] I mean they have done everything to just make sure that –

[00:10:08] And whatever he wants.

[00:10:09] He's basically coached GM and owner now of this team.

[00:10:12] And I love watching him fail.

[00:10:14] I really do.

[00:10:15] You know, as much as I enjoy watching Edmonton fail.

[00:10:19] So.

[00:10:20] I'd like to see the goddamn Kansas City Chiefs fail, man.

[00:10:23] I'm so tired of seeing that.

[00:10:24] Good team, man.

[00:10:25] See, I don't hate Kansas City.

[00:10:27] I like Patrick Mahomes.

[00:10:29] I've said it many times.

[00:10:30] I enjoy watching greatness.

[00:10:33] He's fantastic.

[00:10:34] He's the best quarterback in the league.

[00:10:35] So every chance I can get to sit down and watch him, I'm going to do it.

[00:10:40] That doesn't mean I'm rooting for him.

[00:10:41] But I just could appreciate how awesome he is.

[00:10:46] He is awesome.

[00:10:47] I can't stand the Chiefs.

[00:10:49] Well, sure.

[00:10:49] They're in your division.

[00:10:52] But obviously he's – it's like Tom Brady.

[00:10:55] Like I can't deny.

[00:10:55] Like as much as I hated Tom Brady when he's playing, you know, especially back –

[00:10:58] But now you love him because he's part owner of your team now.

[00:11:01] Well, now I just say – and I say, how can that be a bad thing?

[00:11:04] There's a lot of people being like, oh, I can't believe they brought him on.

[00:11:06] I'm like, man, how could that be a bad thing?

[00:11:09] It can't be a bad thing.

[00:11:09] It can't be a bad thing.

[00:11:10] And not to mention now you have stability in that building because Tom Brady demands it.

[00:11:17] And Tom Brady would be the kind of guy that would tell Mark Davis, like, no, shut up.

[00:11:21] I'm running shit.

[00:11:23] And if he does end up – I think he's going to end up becoming the president of the team by next year.

[00:11:28] And just having him there is going to make people want to come there.

[00:11:31] Well, why would you not want to go and play with TB?

[00:11:34] I mean – or, you know, for TB, I should say, which is awesome.

[00:11:38] But, you know, so I think as far as the future outlooks of both our teams, I think they're very positive.

[00:11:45] I do.

[00:11:46] I think that they're going to be – they're going to be okay.

[00:11:48] So – but now let's talk about our other team.

[00:11:53] So Saturday night, the rematch against the Capitals in our barn.

[00:11:58] Let's just – well, you know, this is how it worked out.

[00:12:01] First period at 445.

[00:12:03] Eric Holla got his second of the year from Stefan Nason and Thomas Tatar to make it 1-0 New Jersey.

[00:12:10] Weird goal, right?

[00:12:11] Just kind of spun around, threw it on net, and, yeah, found the back of the net.

[00:12:17] We'll take it, though, right?

[00:12:18] Okay.

[00:12:20] Didn't last too long.

[00:12:21] 6-0-1.

[00:12:22] Tom Wilson, who had himself a game on Saturday, got his fourth of the year from McMichael.

[00:12:28] 1-1.

[00:12:30] At 10-14, McMichael strikes again.

[00:12:33] He gets the goal his first of the year from Tom Wilson and Jacob Chikrin.

[00:12:38] So now it's 2-1 Washington.

[00:12:41] And at 14-18, Alexander Ovechkin gets his first of the year because, of course, he does against the Devils.

[00:12:48] That was from John Carlson and Dylan Strom.

[00:12:50] The end of the period, it's 3-1 Washington.

[00:12:54] Things were not looking good.

[00:12:56] What did you guys think of that after the first period?

[00:12:58] What was going through your head?

[00:13:02] I'm thinking exactly like you said.

[00:13:04] Things are not looking good.

[00:13:05] First thing that came to my mind is why are we bothering scoring first?

[00:13:08] That obviously isn't doing anything for us.

[00:13:10] And then thinking back to how it started, I mean, that Hall of Goal was great.

[00:13:14] That was a working line goal, you know, to tar driving that play, blind pass.

[00:13:17] That's kind of a devil's hockey type of goal for that line.

[00:13:21] And then things just kind of started to get out of hand.

[00:13:23] And at this point, I was already disappointed because we had talked about what I expected them to do to Washington this game.

[00:13:29] And how one of the biggest things I was looking for was just at least more of a crisper, cleaner game.

[00:13:33] I know we scored five against them the last time, so, you know, it's kind of weird for me to say that.

[00:13:38] But this is exactly what I wanted to avoid.

[00:13:41] This kind of giving them some rope and then coming in here and then Ovechkin getting on the board.

[00:13:46] And it just started to – at this point, it started to seem like we might not win this game.

[00:13:51] We talked about it two weeks ago, too.

[00:13:53] I'm just Ovechkin.

[00:13:54] I'm just tired of seeing him scoring against us.

[00:13:56] He always seems to find the back of the net against the Devils.

[00:13:59] And I was kind of feeling the same way.

[00:14:00] I was like – I thought it was going to be an uglier of a game, you know, than it wound up being.

[00:14:04] Because I was like, ah, right away, the 3-1 just didn't have that good vibe to go.

[00:14:08] No, they were not playing good in the first period at all.

[00:14:11] They were getting hemmed in their own zone.

[00:14:13] The Delta defense was getting worked over pretty good.

[00:14:17] And then the second period started.

[00:14:19] And this is where things get really interesting.

[00:14:22] And if you were at the Rock Saturday night and took just a little too long while you were in the bathroom

[00:14:26] or waiting for your beer, you missed this.

[00:14:29] I was thinking that same thing, man.

[00:14:31] Like, sorry you had to pee.

[00:14:32] 34 seconds in.

[00:14:34] El Capitan, Nico Heischer gets his fourth of the year from Stephan Nason to make it 3-2 Washington.

[00:14:41] All right, we're in this thing.

[00:14:43] And then 10 seconds later, at the 44-second mark,

[00:14:47] Nico Heischer gets his fifth of the year from Timo Meier to tie the game up at three.

[00:14:51] The fastest –

[00:14:52] Euphoria, right?

[00:14:54] Oh, my God.

[00:14:55] Euphoria.

[00:14:55] Euphoria.

[00:14:56] Like, you're just – at this point, you're not losing this game.

[00:14:59] There's no way.

[00:14:59] The fastest two goals scored by a single player in New Jersey Devil history, those 10 seconds.

[00:15:05] Yes.

[00:15:05] And what was – it was 10 seconds because I have in my notes here because I wrote down

[00:15:09] they said 8 seconds and then they said it was 10 seconds and then they said it was 12 seconds

[00:15:14] and they said it was 10 seconds.

[00:15:15] I'm like, make up your mind.

[00:15:16] Bill Spalding went back and forth about three times with the time.

[00:15:19] But it ended up – yes, it is 10 seconds.

[00:15:22] It was at the 34-second mark and the 44-second mark.

[00:15:26] So, I mean, that was just – I mean, that was beautiful.

[00:15:30] That was –

[00:15:30] He was the man.

[00:15:31] I mean –

[00:15:33] It was great.

[00:15:34] Is Nico – I mean, already, you know, the guy is just – me and Chris were talking about

[00:15:38] this probably last week on the phone.

[00:15:41] You know, he's just becoming like just that guy you want.

[00:15:44] You know, you think of when we drafted him.

[00:15:45] Like, I even – I think he's even going to become better than I thought he would become.

[00:15:49] You know, I mean, when that draft – when it was him and Patrick as the two, you looked

[00:15:53] at what their potential would be.

[00:15:56] And I think Nico is just really becoming – he's going to be a face of the devil.

[00:16:00] This is – I mean –

[00:16:00] This is going to be his coming out season.

[00:16:03] And, I mean, he's already got five goals on the year.

[00:16:06] Ties this thing up at 3-3.

[00:16:08] I mean, it looked like, okay, we are finally going to get ourselves rolling here, playing

[00:16:13] better hockey.

[00:16:14] Yeah.

[00:16:15] But they couldn't hold it, man.

[00:16:16] At 9-15, Andrew Mangiopani gets his first of the year from Van Riemsdyk and Protus.

[00:16:22] So, Washington takes a goal lead again.

[00:16:24] They're up 4-3.

[00:16:25] And at 12-33, Dylan Strom gets his third of the year from Van Riemsdyk.

[00:16:29] And now the Devils are down two goals again, 5-3.

[00:16:33] So, as shitty as we felt at the end of the first to as euphoric as you said, Bobby,

[00:16:39] we felt at the beginning of the second, we're back down to feeling pretty shitty after two.

[00:16:45] Yeah, it's really weird because I literally went from I expect them to dominate this game

[00:16:50] to we're going to lose this game to holy shit, there's no way we're going to lose this

[00:16:53] game now to we're losing this game again.

[00:16:55] And that's only two periods.

[00:16:57] What were your impressions, Tone?

[00:17:01] No, it's the same thing.

[00:17:02] It was like an up-down, but I thought even after that second period, I was like, okay,

[00:17:07] we're just, I didn't think we were going to actually pick up the pieces.

[00:17:10] So, I mean, which are going to get to, I mean, the fact that we got a point the last,

[00:17:15] that game, I kind of thought we were going to not get that point when it was much of that

[00:17:19] third period.

[00:17:19] I just felt like, you know, even the goal that night, you know, it was both goalies were

[00:17:24] giving up obviously some shots, but I don't know.

[00:17:27] I just, I was kind of surprised we picked up.

[00:17:29] I was surprised that Markstrom played this game and we kind of talked about it beforehand.

[00:17:33] I thought that it would be Allen and, you know, get Markstrom ready to play tomorrow night

[00:17:37] against the Lightning.

[00:17:39] But, you know, Sheldon Keefe felt differently.

[00:17:42] But then we roll into the third period.

[00:17:44] And what might be the nicest goal that we've scored all year at 339?

[00:17:50] Dawson Mercer gets his second on just a beautiful rush play from Heischer and Meyer to get us

[00:17:57] within one, four, five Washington on this.

[00:18:00] This was just such a nice goal.

[00:18:02] Timo coming down the middle.

[00:18:03] He gets it over to the captain over on the left circle.

[00:18:06] He throws a cross ice pass to Mercer who did not waste any time and roofed it past.

[00:18:11] Passed, who the hell was the goalie?

[00:18:13] Wasn't Lindgren.

[00:18:14] Oh, Thomas, Logan Thompson, rather.

[00:18:17] Beautiful goal.

[00:18:18] So now I'm feeling, all right, we're within one here.

[00:18:22] And can they tie this up?

[00:18:24] Because if they can, I was pretty confident that they were going to win it.

[00:18:27] You don't want to go into overtime against the Devils, which we'll talk about the overtime

[00:18:31] coming up.

[00:18:32] But at 1228, finally, Dougie Hamilton breaks the seal.

[00:18:36] His first of the year power play goal from Bratt and Meyer.

[00:18:39] We are tied up at five, and that is the end of regulation.

[00:18:42] So going into overtime, what did you guys, you know, what was going through your head?

[00:18:48] And what did you see in that overtime before the goal was scored?

[00:18:55] Listen, I saw, first of all, I went into it thinking advantage Devils, as you should.

[00:19:00] They typically have that advantage three on three.

[00:19:03] Washington did a really good job of slowing it down, playing their game against us.

[00:19:07] They know that's one of our strengths.

[00:19:08] So they made it boring at some point, which is hard to do, three on three in overtime.

[00:19:13] And, you know, I expected to see a little more action than we had.

[00:19:17] I thought that the face-offs killed us.

[00:19:21] The fact that we were not able to control any face-offs in the overtime was just, we gave

[00:19:27] them possession.

[00:19:28] And then we had that beautiful opportunity.

[00:19:30] I think that was Bratt that got stoned by Logan Thompson, and that was just a beautiful

[00:19:36] save.

[00:19:37] It just, it was so frustrating because exactly what you said, Washington just played fucking

[00:19:43] keep away, and I hated it.

[00:19:45] Didn't Meyer have a shot?

[00:19:47] Maybe it was Meyer, I'm thinking.

[00:19:49] But it's possible.

[00:19:51] But at four minutes, Tom Wilson, his fifth of the year, his second of the game from Dylan

[00:19:57] Stroman, Jacob Chickren, beats Jacob Markstrom, 6-5 overtime, loss to the Devils.

[00:20:03] But, you know, he sure, a huge game, three points, two goals and an assist.

[00:20:07] Meyer also had three points.

[00:20:09] Shots on goal.

[00:20:11] Capitals 37, New Jersey 31.

[00:20:13] Face-offs 1, 25 for the Capitals to 34 from New Jersey.

[00:20:17] So, Holla and, not in overtime, Holla and Heischer were great on face-offs.

[00:20:23] Block shots 15 apiece.

[00:20:25] Takeaways 8 for the Capitals, 2 for the Devils, and giveaways 12 for the Caps, 13 for the Devils.

[00:20:31] Jacob Markstrom finished up with six goals on 37 shots for an 8-3-8 save percentage, which

[00:20:37] I think you can just throw that away because it was just one of those fun, crazy games that

[00:20:42] the Devils ended up not getting, you know, the two points out of it.

[00:20:46] But I consider him extremely lucky, the fact that they were able to come back and showed

[00:20:51] the heart and the skill to make it a 5-5 game.

[00:20:56] Yeah, like you said, Heischer had himself a game.

[00:20:58] I have here that it was two goals, two assists.

[00:21:01] That was mentioned midway through the third period because they also accompanied that with

[00:21:05] a 78% face-off point at that point, or maybe it was at the start of the third period.

[00:21:10] I don't know if they changed an assist or if it was just said wrong or if I wrote it wrong.

[00:21:13] No, no.

[00:21:13] Either way, obviously that game hadn't.

[00:21:15] I think.

[00:21:16] Yeah.

[00:21:16] Two assists, right?

[00:21:17] Well, actually, wait.

[00:21:18] So we had the first goal from Hollow.

[00:21:20] That was from Nason and Tatar.

[00:21:21] And then Heischer got the two goals, so he didn't assist on them.

[00:21:24] And then Mercer's goal was from Heischer and Meyer.

[00:21:28] So that's one assist and two goals.

[00:21:30] And then Hamilton's goal was Bratt and Meyer.

[00:21:31] So I have two goals and one assist for three points.

[00:21:34] But I could be wrong.

[00:21:35] All right.

[00:21:35] Maybe I misread something.

[00:21:36] Yeah.

[00:21:37] Either way.

[00:21:37] Either way.

[00:21:38] Hell of a game.

[00:21:38] I mean, that's 78% going into the third period face-off draw.

[00:21:41] Like you mentioned, we were doing really well in the face-offs prior to the overtime.

[00:21:44] So yeah, he had a hell of a game.

[00:21:46] I'm going to disagree with you a little bit.

[00:21:48] Like, I think Markstrom needs to be better.

[00:21:50] I'm not saying this isn't a throwaway game.

[00:21:52] It is one of those crazy games.

[00:21:55] But it just seemed a little leaky.

[00:21:56] And I don't know that I've seen what I expect from him yet in totality.

[00:22:04] Like, he's had some gems.

[00:22:05] He's had some eh.

[00:22:06] Like, I just – I'm not seeing it.

[00:22:08] You know, we kind of – go ahead, Tom.

[00:22:11] What's the chances you guys think he goes in that against Tampa?

[00:22:15] Well, probably pretty good.

[00:22:17] I mean –

[00:22:19] Yeah.

[00:22:19] But then again, I would have no issues with Jake Allen being in there.

[00:22:24] You know, we do have back-to-backs Thursday and Friday with the Red Wings and the Islanders.

[00:22:29] So maybe do –

[00:22:31] Well, that's the issue we touched on, right?

[00:22:33] If Allen does go in just to get him in a start, then do you do Allen again on Thursday against the Red Wings

[00:22:38] because you want to save Markstrom for the Islanders?

[00:22:40] Because now you're putting Markstrom on six days off.

[00:22:43] Yeah, I don't think that's what's going to happen.

[00:22:44] I don't think they're going to do that.

[00:22:44] I think it's going to go Markstrom, Allen Markstrom for this week.

[00:22:49] Yeah.

[00:22:49] Yeah.

[00:22:50] So I think Markstrom gets in net for the Lightning, which I was going to do the preview and stuff after,

[00:22:56] but I'm going to wait because there's only one game on tonight, and that's Tampa Bay against Toronto.

[00:23:00] So I want to wait until after that game before we do it.

[00:23:04] So Hughes is skating, right?

[00:23:06] So you've got Luke skating, and you have Nemetsu skating.

[00:23:08] What do you guys think they're going to –

[00:23:10] You mean Pesci.

[00:23:12] Pesci.

[00:23:12] Well, Pesci's closer, but Sheldon Keefe did say that he's not going to be playing on Tuesday.

[00:23:20] So he's not going to be in the lineup tomorrow, whether or not that means he's coming back later on in the week.

[00:23:25] And we do have to discuss that we did send Seamus Casey down to Utica, called up Daniel Missile.

[00:23:34] So I understand that.

[00:23:36] Like, we talked a lot about how do you take Casey out of the lineup the first week or so of the season.

[00:23:41] He was playing fantastic.

[00:23:42] But Sheldon Keefe made some really good points, and I'm paraphrasing.

[00:23:46] Like, we played like whatever, how many games in a very short period of time.

[00:23:51] This kid's coming off of a hockey – a college hockey schedule, you know, things like that.

[00:23:56] This is a lot of hockey.

[00:23:58] And to just throw him into an NHL schedule and all that, it's really – it's not going to help him.

[00:24:06] It's detrimental to his development.

[00:24:08] Let's throw him back down there.

[00:24:09] Let him play in the AHL and figure his stuff out.

[00:24:11] But I think we've seen enough from Seamus Casey to be super excited about what the potential this kid is going to be.

[00:24:20] For sure.

[00:24:21] Listen, we know what we're going to get from him offensively, and he's only going to get better there.

[00:24:24] And the key is, though, he also has to get better defensively.

[00:24:27] So we've talked about why he's the guy with the options that has to go down.

[00:24:31] You do it now before he reaches – what is it?

[00:24:33] The nine-game plateau or whatever where you lose a year of service.

[00:24:35] So we got that just another little wire.

[00:24:37] And it just makes total sense.

[00:24:38] We got two guys that I heard today, and I don't think I'm paraphrasing from Keith.

[00:24:42] Their return is imminent, just not tomorrow.

[00:24:45] So one or both is probably back come Thursday's game.

[00:24:49] Which was a surprise because I thought Luke was a little further behind Pesci, to be honest with you.

[00:24:53] Some are saying it's actually Luke who's ready for it.

[00:24:55] Others are saying Pesci.

[00:24:56] I don't know where they get the information, but I don't know who it's going to be.

[00:25:00] But one of them is definitely coming back.

[00:25:01] But guys, Pesci and Luke Hughes coming into this lineup, this changes the entire dynamic of the Devils.

[00:25:07] Am I wrong about this?

[00:25:10] No, it definitely does.

[00:25:11] It's a whole pairing, and it's going to be our number one shutdown defenseman, and Luke and all his upside.

[00:25:18] He's coming around defensively too.

[00:25:20] Like I said, we've got the offense that Casey put up.

[00:25:23] Who's to say Luke wouldn't score the goal by now too, eight games in?

[00:25:27] So we're not going to miss a beat there, and we're going to get better defensively.

[00:25:29] And Shimon Nemich has been playing a lot better.

[00:25:32] I think the last few games he's shown a lot.

[00:25:34] But there is one guy that I got to bring up to you guys.

[00:25:41] What's going on with Jack, guys?

[00:25:43] Like this is a little worrisome.

[00:25:46] Hopefully Luke will – hopefully getting Luke back in the lineup will ignite a little bit.

[00:25:49] You think he's just got to have his little baby brother there?

[00:25:53] I don't think it's just that.

[00:25:54] But, I mean, you kind of hope that you get some little change of something.

[00:25:59] You know, because we know it's in him.

[00:26:00] Like we talked about overtime, right, the other night.

[00:26:02] And, you know, you kind of wanted to see Jack do what he does in overtime.

[00:26:06] But right now, you know, Jack just probably doesn't have that confidence or something going on there.

[00:26:10] I mean, I don't know what it is.

[00:26:13] I mean, listen, we expected more from Jack than we should.

[00:26:16] I think anybody who's going to look eight games in and see his point total is going to say that's not acceptable, I guess, to a degree.

[00:26:23] But, listen, the guy is coming back from the shoulder surgery and all that.

[00:26:25] I mean, maybe we'll take some time.

[00:26:27] I think Jack's going to be fine.

[00:26:29] But we are almost ten games in.

[00:26:31] And that is kind of a big deal that he's not at least doing a little something.

[00:26:36] Sky's not falling.

[00:26:37] Guy's great.

[00:26:38] Will be great.

[00:26:39] Could start as early as tomorrow.

[00:26:41] But to this point in the season, I bet you there's at least a million fans that are pissed off.

[00:26:45] You know?

[00:26:45] A lot of people on Twitter, I'm sure, that are bitching too.

[00:26:48] I've seen a few.

[00:26:48] They're going back and forth, right?

[00:26:50] You got the people who are like, why are you so worried about it?

[00:26:53] That's ridiculous.

[00:26:54] Don't even worry.

[00:26:55] And others are saying, you know, we have a right to worry.

[00:26:57] It's not – he's not performing up to expectations.

[00:26:59] He's not performing as our, you know, leading offensive.

[00:27:02] He's not.

[00:27:02] And it does – and I do – if I was going to attribute it to one thing, I think it would be the fact of the shoulder surgery.

[00:27:10] I think it's just a matter of getting, you know, just back into the groove of playing.

[00:27:15] But even Bratt, I feel like, hasn't been doing his thing.

[00:27:18] Like, I'm waiting for those guys to start clicking.

[00:27:20] I mean, Sheldon Keefe threw the lines in a blender against Washington.

[00:27:25] Like, I mean, that was Lindy Ruff style.

[00:27:27] And I didn't hate Andre Pallott up there with him.

[00:27:31] I didn't hate that.

[00:27:32] Oh, okay.

[00:27:33] Here we go.

[00:27:34] I was waiting for this to come up.

[00:27:35] No, I have to say, I have been extremely disappointed in Andre Pallott basically since he's been here.

[00:27:42] All right?

[00:27:43] And I feel like I constantly make excuses for him.

[00:27:46] And I'm constantly, like, giving him the benefit of the doubt.

[00:27:49] And in the beginning of this year, I was kind of done with him.

[00:27:53] And then moving down to the fourth line, all right, well, you know, I'm not the only one seeing it.

[00:27:58] Everybody's seeing it.

[00:27:59] And then getting moved up to the first line, I thought he brought something to that line.

[00:28:04] But at the same time, no, I am not happy at all with Andre Pallott.

[00:28:09] Yes.

[00:28:10] I had to take a double.

[00:28:11] First, I wrote in my notes that he was up with Jack and them.

[00:28:14] And then I looked, and I'm like, oh, no, he wasn't.

[00:28:15] It must have just been one of those mixed up end of the line, you know, switches.

[00:28:19] And then I looked later.

[00:28:20] I'm like, oh, no, he was, in fact, purposely put on that line.

[00:28:23] And listen, I guess at some point, you know, Keith's saying, I need something going on in that line.

[00:28:28] And why not a guy who's getting $6 million?

[00:28:30] Maybe we can kick him in the ass to get up there.

[00:28:32] I'm just getting awfully tired of the plot experiment.

[00:28:35] Like, I just think, and I rooted for this guy all summer.

[00:28:39] I figured in the right role, we're going to get that guy that could just be the leader, chip in some goals, do something.

[00:28:45] I mean, he's essentially got nothing again, getting close to 10 games with a track record that doesn't suggest he's coming out of it.

[00:28:51] Like, would you feel better?

[00:28:53] I'm thinking buyout at this point, to be honest with you.

[00:28:55] It's just not working.

[00:28:56] Would you feel better with a lesser contract?

[00:28:58] If he didn't have this contract he had, would you let it slide more?

[00:29:01] Of course.

[00:29:01] Of course.

[00:29:01] I wouldn't let it slide more because then it makes it even easier to say, we got to move on from this guy.

[00:29:07] The commitment of $6 million and who he was is why everyone's like keeping him in the lineup.

[00:29:14] When he does amazing things, he really does amazing things.

[00:29:17] You go back to the Ranger playoffs.

[00:29:18] And when he's engaged in a play that works, it's great.

[00:29:20] But he's largely invisible.

[00:29:21] More so, like I found that his, like, he can't connect a pass.

[00:29:27] Like, every time he has this puck on his stick and he tries to make any kind of pass, it's just going in the, you know, behind the player, in front of the player, to an opposing player.

[00:29:36] You know, he just seems like a guy who's old.

[00:29:40] Just seems like an old, washed up player right now.

[00:29:43] Like he fell off click.

[00:29:45] Yeah.

[00:29:46] I mean, Tony, I've been on record since day one about the contract.

[00:29:50] And I even said, it's just that I don't like the contract long term.

[00:29:54] I said in a couple years, this contract's going to be a problem.

[00:29:58] I'm past that.

[00:29:59] I don't even care about the number.

[00:30:01] As a player on the team, are you taking a young kid's spot that might come in here and inject some energy?

[00:30:06] I don't know.

[00:30:07] Because if you put him down the third and fourth line where he should be, then he's an asset.

[00:30:12] He should be an asset.

[00:30:13] But right now, you're going to tell me that there maybe isn't somebody else we can bring up?

[00:30:17] I think that's no one foot spot he's taking.

[00:30:20] What are you going to say, Tony?

[00:30:22] So I have a question for you guys.

[00:30:23] And this will probably be like, people are going to fucking hate this question probably.

[00:30:26] But I've talked to Chris about this.

[00:30:28] And so Bobby and Chris too, I guess.

[00:30:32] Like Jack Hughes, right?

[00:30:33] Do you think Jack Hughes has ever...

[00:30:35] We watched Sidney Crosby play.

[00:30:37] We watched Mario Lemieux play.

[00:30:39] We watched guys that dominated every game pretty much.

[00:30:43] Like maybe two off games a season, some of these guys, right?

[00:30:46] Do you guys think that Jack Hughes is ever going to be that player?

[00:30:50] Or is he going to be a player who has like a great, crazy month, superstar month, quiets down for a couple...

[00:30:57] Four weeks, comes back again, you know?

[00:30:59] Was he going to be that guy that...

[00:31:01] You know, we all watch those guys play in the 90s.

[00:31:04] And they just dominated almost every game.

[00:31:07] When they came to town, you're like, okay, how do we control this guy?

[00:31:11] The guys you've mentioned are unicorns.

[00:31:15] You know, they're not...

[00:31:17] So no, absolutely not do I think that Jack is going to be a guy that just is the best player every single night on the ice, no matter who they're playing.

[00:31:27] No.

[00:31:28] Like, you know, Connor McDavid, he is.

[00:31:30] He is the best player.

[00:31:31] Every time he gets on the ice, he's the best player out there.

[00:31:34] I don't think that's the case with Jack.

[00:31:36] Now, I think Jack Hughes is going to be...

[00:31:39] But that's most guys, you know?

[00:31:42] Like, that's most of those second-tier guys like Panarin and, you know, Pasternak and those dudes.

[00:31:48] They're not always...

[00:31:49] They're streaky.

[00:31:50] They're not the best...

[00:31:51] You know, they get hot.

[00:31:53] They get cold.

[00:31:53] It's just how it works with these guys.

[00:31:55] I think that that is pretty much more Jack's lane than a guy who's going to dominate each and every night.

[00:32:01] And I also think when it comes to the face of the franchise, I think that is Nico Heischer.

[00:32:06] It's not Jack Hughes.

[00:32:10] Have we talked about that before, huh?

[00:32:12] I just think that, and I believe I've said this phrase before, like, there's a true generational talent.

[00:32:19] You know, those guys like Crosby that comes in and just storms the league for the whole time.

[00:32:22] McDavid's turn.

[00:32:23] All those guys.

[00:32:24] And I just feel like this is like that one level below it.

[00:32:27] There's like generational and just subgenerational.

[00:32:30] You know what I mean?

[00:32:30] Like, he's a superstar and he's going to be a great leader and a great player.

[00:32:34] But a couple of those guys, I mean, they're almost godlike in what they're able to do.

[00:32:37] And you've got to look at the whole package.

[00:32:39] Jack's still a young guy.

[00:32:40] He really is.

[00:32:41] Crosby's still playing and like playing effectively.

[00:32:44] Like, not everybody can do that.

[00:32:46] So like the legacy and everything also comes into play long term once you see what these people really can do.

[00:32:51] But overall, I'd say he's just kind of that tick below some of those, you know.

[00:32:56] And I think Jack throughout his career, he's going to have seasons where he's one of the best players out there.

[00:33:01] Like, you know it's going to happen.

[00:33:02] Yeah.

[00:33:03] Could lead the league.

[00:33:03] And it'll come.

[00:33:04] It'll come.

[00:33:05] And, you know, I think Jack's a problem with Jack Hughes is the fact that he is small.

[00:33:10] I mean, it's just he's not a big dude.

[00:33:12] And I think that he I mean, I've seen little guys that get fucking decked and they get rocked and they're right there.

[00:33:19] Like, I feel like every time he gets hit, I'm holding my breath like every, you know, and I don't know if that's just me or whatever.

[00:33:26] But that's kind of how I feel like he's made out of glass.

[00:33:29] And maybe I shouldn't feel that way.

[00:33:30] But that's how I look at him sometimes.

[00:33:34] Yeah, we just seem to miss some time, you know.

[00:33:36] So it's just it's that's just what's fresh in your head.

[00:33:38] I mean, the bottom line is he's our guy.

[00:33:41] He doesn't need to be McDavid.

[00:33:43] He doesn't need to be Crosby.

[00:33:44] He needs to be exactly what he is for the New Jersey Devil.

[00:33:46] He's going to be here for a long time.

[00:33:47] He's going to break a lot of records.

[00:33:49] We all love Jack.

[00:33:49] He's going to be our hero a lot of nights.

[00:33:51] You know, I still love the dude.

[00:33:53] And I think right now it's just a weird year because everyone's just kind of waiting from the pop again.

[00:33:56] And it's going to happen.

[00:33:57] It really is.

[00:33:58] And that's the other thing, too.

[00:33:59] It's not just Jack you're waiting to pop like you're waiting to see this team because you've seen glimpses, right, of how good this team can be just in the nine, eight, nine games.

[00:34:08] We've watched already eight games when the defense gets settled, when, you know, the top line starts clicking a little bit more chemistry because now look, we were wrong.

[00:34:19] All right.

[00:34:20] Timo Meyer, Dawson Mercer, Nico Heischer.

[00:34:22] That's the line.

[00:34:23] I mean, you're not changing it.

[00:34:25] It's it's the line.

[00:34:26] It worked last year.

[00:34:27] It's working this year.

[00:34:28] I guess for some reason, Timo Meyer and Jack Hughes are just not great together.

[00:34:35] It is a little mind boggling.

[00:34:36] Right.

[00:34:37] So I like that.

[00:34:38] OK, that's working again.

[00:34:40] So we have one line that is steady back there.

[00:34:43] You know, Jack's going to come up to life.

[00:34:45] But I like the Jack and Brat combo, too.

[00:34:48] I always have like that.

[00:34:49] And Brat, I feel like I'm still seeing him doing everything he does.

[00:34:53] Like, I don't feel like he's taking a step back right now.

[00:34:55] It's just maybe not all going in.

[00:34:56] He has to put a few of those pucks in on the breakaway.

[00:34:58] Is that easy?

[00:34:59] You know, that's the thing.

[00:35:00] He's kind of done that through his career a lot of times.

[00:35:02] He makes these great flashy moves to get in front of people and cut down on that right

[00:35:06] side board and kind of miss the net.

[00:35:08] But he usually makes up for it.

[00:35:09] I mean, through the course of the season.

[00:35:10] I just think that this like last element, who's going to play with those two now?

[00:35:14] And I know they're moving everybody around again.

[00:35:16] But when Cotter, like I was liking that.

[00:35:19] That's where I would put Cotter.

[00:35:20] I would put Cotter up there with Brack and Jack.

[00:35:23] Jack and Brat.

[00:35:25] Brack and Brack Show.

[00:35:27] Yeah.

[00:35:27] Remember the Brack Show?

[00:35:28] The Space Ghost Coast to Coast?

[00:35:30] Yeah.

[00:35:31] Coast to Coast.

[00:35:32] But, and you're seeing a lot of that Holtz, people are now saying, they're like, you

[00:35:37] know, with Holtz and Cotter, they're like, man, the devils, you can't complain at all

[00:35:41] what the devils got.

[00:35:42] Oh, God, no.

[00:35:43] Yeah.

[00:35:43] Now they're flipping it right because it looks good.

[00:35:46] But all that stuff, it didn't matter.

[00:35:48] It didn't matter when it happened.

[00:35:49] We were talking about that too.

[00:35:50] You can't, not everything's apples to apples.

[00:35:51] They're totally different players.

[00:35:53] You just got to make these transitions.

[00:35:55] Yeah.

[00:35:55] You just got to make these transactions and, you know, sometimes moving just works for players.

[00:36:00] Yes.

[00:36:00] So it's not about who wins the trade.

[00:36:02] Well, you know, I am.

[00:36:03] Players fit in certain areas better.

[00:36:05] Yeah, you're right.

[00:36:06] I am interested though in, or not interested, curious of foot in Andre Palat's spot.

[00:36:16] I think the, you know, I don't know what you're going to, you're not going to hurt anything

[00:36:22] by just sitting Palat for a game and throwing, you know, him in there and seeing how he does.

[00:36:27] That's all.

[00:36:28] You know?

[00:36:29] I mean, think about a line of Lazar and, um, uh, what's it?

[00:36:34] Who's on the fourth line?

[00:36:35] I'm like having a complete brain here.

[00:36:37] Uh, Tatar, Lazar, and Bastion.

[00:36:39] Yeah.

[00:36:39] Bastion, Lazar, and Foote.

[00:36:40] I like that.

[00:36:42] I like that.

[00:36:44] Yeah.

[00:36:44] I mean, it's the worst thing you do.

[00:36:45] You bring, you bring foot in.

[00:36:47] He gets no points in eight games.

[00:36:48] And you're calling him.

[00:36:49] Well, it's cheaper to give you no points in eight games too.

[00:36:52] Right.

[00:36:53] Well, let's do a little housekeeping here.

[00:36:55] The quest for the Stanley Cup starts now and the puck's dropping on the 24-25 season.

[00:38:11] I wanted to bring a home.

[00:38:12] I wanted to bring a home.

[00:38:14] They were so bad.

[00:38:16] When you go see, is it a show or is it a concert?

[00:38:20] MLB The Show?

[00:38:21] I believe is already a thing.

[00:38:23] So it's a show.

[00:40:05] GameTime, Tony.

[00:40:07] So did you guys see I have to bring this up?

[00:40:09] I've talked to you guys about this.

[00:40:11] So the top five movies that were out last weekend, okay?

[00:40:15] This is number five was Piece by Piece.

[00:40:19] Never heard of it.

[00:40:20] Number four was Beetlejuice.

[00:40:22] Number three was The Joker.

[00:40:24] Number two was The Wild Robot.

[00:40:25] Number one movie in America, Terrifier 3.

[00:40:28] Wow.

[00:40:29] That's awesome.

[00:40:30] Oh, good for you.

[00:40:31] $18.3 million that weekend it bought in.

[00:40:34] It broke all the records this week.

[00:40:37] It's the first time a non-rated movie has ever won.

[00:40:40] Wow.

[00:40:41] It's the number one movie in America.

[00:40:42] It's crazy.

[00:40:43] You know, now I was telling my buddy because he's like, oh, we should get – we had the actor on on this other podcast.

[00:40:48] I do David Howard Thornton, the guy who plays Artic Clown.

[00:40:50] What show is that, Tony?

[00:40:52] Now you're not getting –

[00:40:53] And where can people find that show?

[00:40:57] Everywhere that they stream.

[00:40:58] Everywhere.

[00:40:59] Spotify.

[00:41:00] Pretty much everywhere.

[00:41:02] But yeah, the guy – the actor that was on that was on our show and my buddy's like, oh, we should get him to come on again.

[00:41:06] I go, dude, he ain't coming on again.

[00:41:08] Oh, why?

[00:41:09] He's like –

[00:41:09] Why?

[00:41:10] He made what I made.

[00:41:11] But dude, that movie is blowing up.

[00:41:14] Because he's got the number one movie in America.

[00:41:15] The guy dresses up like a clown.

[00:41:16] He'll go on the show.

[00:41:18] All right.

[00:41:19] Yeah, Johnny was flying down from when we stayed over for the opening night.

[00:41:24] We were driving back because he was trying to get to, I don't know, an afternoon show.

[00:41:28] He was trying to pull me over to go.

[00:41:29] I'm like, no, I can't go.

[00:41:30] I got to get home.

[00:41:31] I've been gone for the night.

[00:41:32] But yeah, he was going right to it.

[00:41:34] That is a movie.

[00:41:37] He was going to see Terrifier.

[00:41:38] He was going to see it.

[00:41:39] Like literally.

[00:41:39] Oh, Terrifier 3?

[00:41:40] He was trying to get me to go see Terrifier.

[00:41:41] Right.

[00:41:42] I didn't know anything about it.

[00:41:43] I didn't see any of them.

[00:41:44] So I don't think I have to to enjoy the movie.

[00:41:46] It's basically taking over that – it blows away Friday the 13th, Halloween.

[00:41:51] The main character doesn't talk at all.

[00:41:53] He's like this – and who finds – I don't find clowns scary at all.

[00:41:56] But this guy, this mime is – the actor is so amazing.

[00:41:59] I find mimes scary.

[00:42:00] And it's got like – it's very brutal.

[00:42:03] Mimes.

[00:42:03] It is a brutal – like the killings.

[00:42:05] Mimes are not good.

[00:42:06] He has all this –

[00:42:08] No, no, no.

[00:42:09] This movie will freak you out though.

[00:42:10] But yeah, it's a great movie.

[00:42:12] The story is great.

[00:42:12] But it's brutal as shit.

[00:42:14] Like I mean they cut people in half.

[00:42:15] I mean it's brutal.

[00:42:15] It's our movie.

[00:42:16] But it's done where it's funny kind of.

[00:42:20] It's almost like a tongue-in-cheek thing.

[00:42:21] It's untastefully.

[00:42:22] I tastefully cut you in half.

[00:42:24] I didn't mean it.

[00:42:25] Don't be so sensitive.

[00:42:26] We sat down to watch – my son came down the other night and he was like, hey, let's watch a movie.

[00:42:33] He's like, all right.

[00:42:34] So I'm like, what do you want to see?

[00:42:36] Like there's so many movies that I want to show you and stuff.

[00:42:40] So he was like, well, I kind of want to see A Bronx Tale.

[00:42:43] You got it.

[00:42:44] So we sat down and watched A Bronx Tale.

[00:42:46] First time.

[00:42:47] And I hadn't seen that movie from start to finish in a really long time.

[00:42:51] And he loved it.

[00:42:52] Put him in the bathroom.

[00:42:52] I don't want his face looking at my dice.

[00:42:55] Put him in the fucking bathroom.

[00:42:57] He's a fucking jinx.

[00:42:58] Yes.

[00:42:59] No, because you're a fucking jinx.

[00:43:00] When he's out there at the track, right?

[00:43:02] And they're all betting on the horse, right?

[00:43:04] And as soon as they see him coming down, they rip the fucking tickets up.

[00:43:08] They're like, what are you doing?

[00:43:09] Like we fucking lost.

[00:43:11] See, he's a jinx.

[00:43:12] And the fucking horse loses.

[00:43:15] Brilliant.

[00:43:16] It's amazing how old that movie is now.

[00:43:17] Because even when you watch it now, it seems just fresh.

[00:43:20] It holds up.

[00:43:21] So the next one we're doing is True Romance.

[00:43:24] He's got to sit down and watch True Romance.

[00:43:26] It's just a fantastic.

[00:43:27] You never saw True Romance?

[00:43:30] No.

[00:43:30] You'll like it, Tone.

[00:43:31] It was the first screenplay that Quentin Tarantino wrote.

[00:43:36] He didn't direct the movie, but he wrote the screenplay.

[00:43:39] Christian Slater, Rosanna Arquette, Christopher Walken.

[00:43:44] Dennis Hopper.

[00:43:45] You'll like it.

[00:43:47] What does Slater do now?

[00:43:48] He does.

[00:43:48] He's in a ton of stuff.

[00:43:49] He does a lot of voice stuff.

[00:43:51] I remember.

[00:43:52] I know he did Young Guns.

[00:43:53] That was like 30 years ago.

[00:43:55] That was like the last.

[00:43:56] He's in Mr. Robot.

[00:43:57] What is he?

[00:43:57] I don't remember seeing him.

[00:43:58] He did a lot of voice stuff like Archer, Inside Job.

[00:44:03] So yeah, I think he's in something new, another TV show.

[00:44:07] I just saw a commercial.

[00:44:08] He's around.

[00:44:09] He's around.

[00:44:11] Now, Bobby, you have something that The Maven wrote?

[00:44:15] For those who don't know, The Maven is Stan Fishler, who has just been a part of this

[00:44:22] area in hockey forever.

[00:44:25] He was on every devil feed when we used to watch him.

[00:44:30] He was like Bryce, basically.

[00:44:31] He was the guy that would talk to the players and be behind the bench and stuff like that.

[00:44:35] So he's like 112 years old now, but he's still writing shit about hockey.

[00:44:41] What did The Maven have to say?

[00:44:44] He is talking shit too.

[00:44:45] Apparently, this guy is not a big fan of Shesterkin.

[00:44:47] Oh, that's too bad.

[00:44:48] I'm not a big fan of Shesterkin either.

[00:44:50] So before I get into this tweet here on X, do you still call it a tweet?

[00:44:55] It's not Twitter anymore.

[00:44:56] It's still a tweet, right?

[00:44:57] I don't think so.

[00:44:57] It's not an X.

[00:44:58] You could just call it a post.

[00:44:59] It's an X.

[00:45:00] It's an X?

[00:45:00] Just a post.

[00:45:02] Anyway, there's talk now against Shesterkin.

[00:45:05] It's sounding like not only does he want to be the highest paid goalie, but the highest paid ranger.

[00:45:10] So now the 12 million, which we were saying, remember Chris, are we even just assuming that's the cap?

[00:45:15] I'm hearing 13 million.

[00:45:17] Like on a couple little posts.

[00:45:18] I don't know if this is true.

[00:45:19] Somebody posted it.

[00:45:20] It would look like a journalist.

[00:45:21] Just maybe speculative, of course.

[00:45:23] But given the fact that the 11 didn't work, to do the math, to be the highest, he might want something like 13.

[00:45:29] I don't know.

[00:45:30] But the Maven goes savage on him here.

[00:45:33] It's a nice, simple post.

[00:45:35] I'm just surprised.

[00:45:37] He goes, where was Igor in the third round with a 2-1 lead in games?

[00:45:43] Crash, bam, alakazam, Stanley Cup, or bust busted?

[00:45:48] Because old man Bob was better.

[00:45:50] Dude, I love it, man.

[00:45:52] He's just like crushing this guy.

[00:45:54] I mean...

[00:45:55] And you know what?

[00:45:56] Again, that's what we talked about.

[00:45:57] You can ask for everything you want, but what have you done yet?

[00:46:02] You're not a seasoned goaltender that won a few cups and now you're coming around and you want the big contract or anything.

[00:46:08] I mean, you have great regular seasons.

[00:46:10] He's doing fantastic right now.

[00:46:11] The Rangers are doing fantastic right now.

[00:46:13] And probably all three of us, because I know Chris agrees with me, that he's the best goalie in the league right now.

[00:46:18] But goddamn, man.

[00:46:19] Like you got to bring this to the man's down.

[00:46:20] Aaron is the highest paid New York Ranger.

[00:46:23] He gets $11,642,857 a year.

[00:46:29] His cap hit...

[00:46:31] I don't even see that here, but it doesn't matter.

[00:46:33] Then Adam Fox at 9-5.

[00:46:35] Zibanejad at 8-5.

[00:46:37] Truba at 8.

[00:46:38] Kreider at 6-5.

[00:46:40] Shestarkin at 5-6-6-6.

[00:46:42] So that's where he...

[00:46:44] Right now, he's the sixth highest paid Ranger.

[00:46:48] Now, $12 million makes him the highest paid Ranger.

[00:46:51] If he wants $13 million...

[00:46:53] Like, look, at this point, the fucking guy can ask for $20 million.

[00:46:58] He's probably going to get it because he's got them by the balls.

[00:47:01] I mean, what do you think, Tone?

[00:47:05] I think if I made any of that money, I'd wake up very early every morning and just stare at my bank account.

[00:47:10] You know?

[00:47:11] I'd be like Scrooge McDuck and I'd have a big vault of it and I'd be diving into it and swimming around.

[00:47:16] Naked, just staring at it like...

[00:47:18] Loving it on your nipples.

[00:47:20] Just getting...

[00:47:20] No, yep.

[00:47:21] But that's a lot of money.

[00:47:23] And Shestarkin is...

[00:47:25] Look, he's a good goalie, but I said it...

[00:47:27] Does he get it?

[00:47:28] Of course he's going to get it.

[00:47:29] You don't have a choice.

[00:47:31] Yeah.

[00:47:31] You don't have a choice.

[00:47:32] You've got to give it to him.

[00:47:33] You can't let him walk you out.

[00:47:34] And the thing is, though, like...

[00:47:38] I just don't get why.

[00:47:41] That's my thing.

[00:47:42] I've said it a million times.

[00:47:43] Why is he worth more than Holabuck?

[00:47:46] Why is he worth more than Bobrovsky?

[00:47:48] Why is he worth more than Vasilevsky?

[00:47:50] Why?

[00:47:51] I have no...

[00:47:52] You've done...

[00:47:54] You've got one.

[00:47:55] Vezna Holabuck has two.

[00:47:57] You never won a cup and Bobrovsky's got one and Vasilevsky's got two.

[00:48:01] You've never even played for a cup.

[00:48:05] But here's a question, Chris.

[00:48:06] I don't maybe...

[00:48:07] Would you personally...

[00:48:09] Who would you rather have out of those four on your team?

[00:48:12] Probably Shestarkin.

[00:48:13] Because he's probably the...

[00:48:13] Like Bobby said, he is the best goalie in hockey right now.

[00:48:16] Yeah.

[00:48:16] I guess I'm not surprised.

[00:48:18] Well, I don't even...

[00:48:19] Who even knows if he'll get that money?

[00:48:20] But I think he's worth around...

[00:48:23] You know, if you want to give him Bobrovsky-like money, 10.

[00:48:26] Even if you wanted to go to 11.

[00:48:28] Okay.

[00:48:29] Right.

[00:48:30] They started at 11.

[00:48:31] I thought this thing would get settled like 11-2, 11-5 around there.

[00:48:35] That's where I thought they would find.

[00:48:36] We were here and he wanted 12.

[00:48:38] Rangers offered 11.

[00:48:39] Yeah, you're going to meet in the middle.

[00:48:40] That's negotiating.

[00:48:42] But now he's...

[00:48:43] Reports are coming out.

[00:48:45] Whether or not they're accurate, I don't know.

[00:48:46] But reports are coming out at 13 million.

[00:48:49] Like...

[00:48:49] And he has said,

[00:48:50] There is no hometown discount.

[00:48:53] I want to be the highest paid New York Ranger.

[00:48:58] I found it.

[00:48:59] I clipped another screenshot from the next post.

[00:49:02] And I didn't originally...

[00:49:03] Originally, I clipped out who it was from.

[00:49:05] And lo and behold, it is from the same Stan Bishler.

[00:49:08] On Igor Sesterkin.

[00:49:09] Now, this is written in like Twitter speak.

[00:49:11] So I'll try to get through it here.

[00:49:13] Here's the latest on the Piggy Iggy Soap Opera.

[00:49:16] At New York Rangers, hashtag Sesterkin.

[00:49:18] Wants to be highest paid blue shirt and top dollar NHL goalie.

[00:49:23] But in the hockey news's top 50 players,

[00:49:27] Breadman is 10.

[00:49:28] Hollabuck is 11.

[00:49:30] Fox is 12.

[00:49:31] Igor down at 13.

[00:49:33] If Ka-ching King gets his 13 mil, that's 14%.

[00:49:38] 14% of the payroll for one position.

[00:49:40] Ka-ching King, I fucking love.

[00:49:42] That's fantastic.

[00:49:43] Ka-ching King.

[00:49:44] Ka-ching King.

[00:49:45] That's how you nickname.

[00:49:46] Exactly.

[00:49:47] What you would call it.

[00:49:48] Bryce needs to learn from the Maven.

[00:49:51] But, right?

[00:49:52] 14% of your salary cap is going to go to your goaltender.

[00:49:58] I mean, yeah, they're super important.

[00:50:00] But, you know, I don't remember the last time that a goalie scored you 50 goals.

[00:50:05] I don't know, man.

[00:50:06] I just think that it's...

[00:50:07] I think right now, everything is going to be fine.

[00:50:11] Because the Rangers look great.

[00:50:13] And they're winning.

[00:50:14] And this and that.

[00:50:15] But what...

[00:50:16] You know, an injury here or there.

[00:50:18] We've seen how this goes.

[00:50:19] What if they start going on a bit of a losing streak?

[00:50:22] You know, what's going to happen?

[00:50:23] I don't think it's going to happen.

[00:50:24] I think they're a damn good team.

[00:50:25] That I think is going to lose in the playoffs.

[00:50:27] They are.

[00:50:27] And I think they're going to lose to us.

[00:50:28] But regardless, it's way too far ahead.

[00:50:31] But I just...

[00:50:32] You know, this is going to end up being an issue, is what I'm saying.

[00:50:39] No doubt.

[00:50:41] Glad it's not our problem.

[00:50:42] Yeah.

[00:50:43] All right.

[00:50:43] Well, boys, I think we're going to probably wrap this thing up for the evening.

[00:50:47] If you guys have anything else that you want to discuss, we can discuss it.

[00:50:51] No?

[00:50:52] Everybody's good?

[00:50:53] Tony made it through the whole show.

[00:50:54] Thank you for staying up with us.

[00:50:57] Who do you guys got for Friday night?

[00:50:59] Well, I mean, we all got to go with the Yankees, right?

[00:51:01] I mean, Dodgers.

[00:51:03] Dodgers.

[00:51:03] These aren't my dad's Dodgers.

[00:51:05] You know?

[00:51:06] The Brooklyn Dodgers.

[00:51:07] My dad still wears his Brooklyn Dodger hats and everything.

[00:51:09] He loves the old Brooklyn Dodgers.

[00:51:11] But this isn't them.

[00:51:12] I have no love for L.A.

[00:51:14] You know?

[00:51:15] So...

[00:51:16] Here everyone's got Yankee hats on, but no one knows it yet.

[00:51:19] Just wear them.

[00:51:20] Well...

[00:51:20] You know, it's like, I see them all the time.

[00:51:22] I mean, that makes sense, though.

[00:51:23] I don't know what happened last night.

[00:51:24] That makes sense.

[00:51:25] Yeah.

[00:51:25] It's the biggest branded sports franchise in history.

[00:51:28] And Dodgers, too, actually.

[00:51:29] I see a lot of Dodgers here.

[00:51:30] Dodgers.

[00:51:31] What about football?

[00:51:32] Like, is it like Cowboys?

[00:51:34] Steelers?

[00:51:36] Believe it or not.

[00:51:37] Believe it or not.

[00:51:38] Well, the Jets, believe it or not.

[00:51:40] But the Raiders, there's actually a lot of Raiders.

[00:51:42] Like, at the H&M's here, there's a lot of, like, T-shirts or shorts.

[00:51:45] Because, as we all know, it kind of got a symbol.

[00:51:47] The Raiders shield got adopted by some kind of pop culture years ago.

[00:51:51] You know?

[00:51:51] You saw it in the back videos.

[00:51:53] Well, it's also killer logos and everything.

[00:51:55] I miss Archelle.

[00:51:57] Watching him.

[00:51:59] Yeah.

[00:51:59] Archelle was badass.

[00:52:01] He died, right?

[00:52:02] Yeah.

[00:52:04] He's still alive?

[00:52:05] He's still alive, isn't he?

[00:52:07] Yeah.

[00:52:08] Let me look here.

[00:52:08] Well, you guys could have been in your dead or alive bit when we get that rolling again.

[00:52:12] Archelle.

[00:52:13] Now, I'm the only one that knows who Archelle is.

[00:52:15] And Bobby's like, I don't know who Archelle is.

[00:52:17] I'm just, yeah.

[00:52:19] Archelle was the first black coach in the NFL.

[00:52:22] He's 77.

[00:52:23] Yeah, the Raiders were the first one to hire a black coach.

[00:52:27] 77 now he is.

[00:52:28] Nice.

[00:52:29] All right.

[00:52:29] So, guys, we're going to wrap this thing up.

[00:52:31] Get ready for the Tampa Bay game.

[00:52:32] We're going to put a little preview video out tomorrow morning to look into that.

[00:52:36] I just want to wait and see how they fare against the Maple Leafs tonight.

[00:52:39] So, wherever you're listening to us, a like, a five-star review, a positive comment, download,

[00:52:43] a subscription.

[00:52:44] Helps a little podcast that could.

[00:52:45] For Tony, Bobby, I'm Chris.

[00:52:46] We're the Uncle Puckers.

[00:52:47] We'll see you when we see you.

[00:52:50] Bye-bye.

[00:52:55] It's over, Johnny.

[00:52:57] It's over.
