Canes Have Fallen & Can't Get Up

The guys talk about the weekend series with the Canes. Why all the Haula hate? When did the Canes become such babies? Three out of Four can win you a cup. More fun with the Rangers.

[00:00:05] Hey everyone, Mr. Devil here, Kenny Danico, three-time Stanley Cup champion of the New Jersey Devils, and you're listening to the Uncle Puckers NJD Podcast. Let's go Devils!

[00:00:20] Look at that. That's production value right there. Look at getting there. I tell you, Bobby, well frickin' done. Well, you know, it could be a little bit tighter, but let me just share a really funny story about that because for anyone listening on the radio that's not seeing it, we put together a little

[00:00:37] intro video graphics and well, I'd never really done that before. So I was basically putting it together on the desktop and then, you know, needed the credit card to buy, you know, the program. So I'll get to that a little bit.

[00:00:49] Went upstairs, got some lunch, went to the same site on my phone, right? Logged in the same way with our Uncle Puckers account, same password, all that. And, you know, Apple paid for it. Like this is great. That's how I got that little animated logo, right?

[00:01:01] Come back downstairs, log in. I'm trying to export this thing I just built for a few hours. It's not letting me export. Say I gotta pay for it. Long story short, after hours with customer service, the payment to the app was just for the app. The payment for the desktop was just for the desktop. Even though it's the same account with the same email. Like it's only me.

[00:01:21] You can't use it on two different...

[00:01:22] They're like, that's for iOS only. And of course, I'm thinking it was on an Apple. It is iOS. They're like, no, jackass. We mean like it's on your phone.

[00:01:28] So I'm like, all right, no problem. I don't need it on my phone. Just transfer the money over to the desktop account, please. I need to export this program.

[00:01:35] Like, well, we can't do that. We're two separate entities. I'm like, but you're the same company? They're like, yes.

[00:01:41] I'm like, and I have one account. They're like, yes. I'm like, but you can't take the money I just gave you on the app and apply it.

[00:01:48] They're like, no. So I'm like, fine. So I pay for the desktop and then I go back to Apple and actually, you know, just talk about the charge and get the charge removed.

[00:01:58] They're saying I didn't mean to buy it and they credited me properly, but I didn't freaking know. I thought, you know, if you're one company, I'm logging into your website.

[00:02:05] I'm just trying to give you money to get this program.

[00:02:08] It seems extremely flawed.

[00:02:11] It was stupid.

[00:02:12] But we did it together and now we got a piece and I'll keep cleaning up as we go.

[00:02:16] So was the person in Apple like super condescending? Like that's iOS or...

[00:02:21] Well, no, it was the program that I used to do the video editing.

[00:02:26] Oh, okay.

[00:02:27] They were the one that were like, no, iOS, that means your phone, not Apple.

[00:02:30] And I'm like, all right, whatever. Like, okay, I'm stupid. I get it. I'm old.

[00:02:34] But yeah, the Apple payment thing was easy as hell.

[00:02:37] I literally just went to Apple supports.

[00:02:40] It didn't mean to buy and it was credited within like 12 hours.

[00:02:42] Well, that's good because I hope, I mean, at some point we will get the YouTube channel set up correctly.

[00:02:50] And once we do, then these shows will actually be on YouTube.

[00:02:54] And so everyone will be able to see what Bobby's talking about.

[00:02:57] Because unfortunately you're not going to be able to see that until that happens.

[00:03:01] Then they're going to see us and they're going to be like, I don't want to watch this at all.

[00:03:04] Well, speak for yourself, Tim.

[00:03:06] I'm not the one that gets ridiculed on X all the time about apparently.

[00:03:10] These people, like, they love to just go and get nasty.

[00:03:14] I'm reading some of them and they, like, go right to, like, talking shit about how you look.

[00:03:18] It's like, who does that?

[00:03:20] I know.

[00:03:20] Who does that?

[00:03:21] It's like, I'm sorry.

[00:03:23] My favorite response that I stopped using was, like, well, I'm a little chubby because your mom keeps giving me a sandwich every time I come over.

[00:03:31] And I'm not going to be rude.

[00:03:32] She won't let me leave until she eats me.

[00:03:34] She won't let me leave until I eat her sandwich.

[00:03:36] And she loves fucking load it up with mayonnaise.

[00:03:38] Like, what do you want me to do?

[00:03:39] Be rude to your mother?

[00:03:40] Like, what kind of person are you?

[00:03:42] That's great.

[00:03:42] I agree.

[00:03:44] But now that I'm a well-respected hockey podcaster, I probably should have won stuff like that.

[00:03:50] But, yeah, I just delete those.

[00:03:52] Block them.

[00:03:53] Honestly, it's like if you don't have anything, like, credible to respond to me with that is, like, you're fat or, like, you're stupid.

[00:04:01] Fuck you.

[00:04:02] Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

[00:04:03] All right.

[00:04:04] Because I can honestly say, like, we see you every time we do the show.

[00:04:13] You're heavy if you're not.

[00:04:14] Like, I can't tell.

[00:04:15] Like, what?

[00:04:16] Oh, he's heavy.

[00:04:17] Oh, boy.

[00:04:18] He's a fatty.

[00:04:20] He's a fatty.

[00:04:21] He's a...

[00:04:21] No, I've always been husky and I'm wide.

[00:04:24] I'm kind of...

[00:04:26] Yeah.

[00:04:26] I'm like...

[00:04:27] Like we mentioned last time, you know, I'm not the tallest guy in the world.

[00:04:30] But I've always had to be kind of wide and...

[00:04:33] Sure.

[00:04:33] Okay.

[00:04:34] And as you get older, that built turns into mush.

[00:04:39] So...

[00:04:40] So...

[00:04:40] I saw somebody write something nasty about...

[00:04:45] On your feed and I was...

[00:04:48] I had it all fired up.

[00:04:49] I'm ready to just go and I'm like, wait a second.

[00:04:53] And I'm in this shit and, like, I don't have the time right now to just go and insult somebody for the next three hours.

[00:04:59] So I just erased it and moved on.

[00:05:01] But I was so mad.

[00:05:02] I was like, fuck you, dude.

[00:05:04] You don't know fucking Tim.

[00:05:05] What the hell are you talking shit about?

[00:05:07] I'm like...

[00:05:07] Yeah, hell yeah.

[00:05:08] Come on.

[00:05:08] Come on.

[00:05:09] Talk shit about his takes.

[00:05:10] That's one thing.

[00:05:11] But you don't talk shit like that.

[00:05:13] You know?

[00:05:13] I don't like that.

[00:05:14] It just doesn't bring anything valuable to the conversation.

[00:05:16] Like, you know, Brad Pack deals with that shit a lot, too.

[00:05:20] Like, you know, I see that some people say the worst shit to him in his comments.

[00:05:24] And I don't...

[00:05:26] A couple years ago, it probably would have bothered me.

[00:05:28] But now I'm just like, all right.

[00:05:29] Fuck off, dude.

[00:05:30] Well, I was reading the...

[00:05:33] You had sent us Stan Fischler's tweet about the Rangers.

[00:05:37] And so I was reading all the comments.

[00:05:40] And everybody was pretty much like, yeah, you're right, Stan.

[00:05:44] And somebody asked, has there ever been a drop-off from one season to the next as bad as this year's Rangers were?

[00:05:55] Fair question.

[00:05:57] So Stan wrote something like it happened in 1946.

[00:06:01] But it was because of, like, wartime stuff that people had left.

[00:06:05] And that was the main reason why the team got so...

[00:06:08] Was so good.

[00:06:08] And that no longer was good.

[00:06:11] So it's a legit answer.

[00:06:13] And I'm reading...

[00:06:14] And some asshole just wrote, like...

[00:06:16] Yeah, well, you would know because you were around back then, Grandpa.

[00:06:19] And I was like, all right.

[00:06:21] Sorry.

[00:06:21] I just had to say...

[00:06:23] I just...

[00:06:23] But, like, come on.

[00:06:24] It's Stan Fischler.

[00:06:26] I was just like, look.

[00:06:27] Stan has forgotten more about hockey than you will ever know.

[00:06:31] You respect the fucking Maven.

[00:06:34] You don't shit on him.

[00:06:35] You know?

[00:06:36] It's just...

[00:06:37] I don't know, man.

[00:06:37] Like, does that get your rocks off insulting a 92-year-old man because of his hockey take?

[00:06:42] It's always these nameless, faceless accounts, you know, that have some sort of...

[00:06:47] You know?

[00:06:47] And some of these guys that were in my responses were also responded to Amanda Stein with, like,

[00:06:53] a whole bunch of anti-Semitic shit.

[00:06:54] Yeah.

[00:06:55] It's like, Jesus Christ, Elon.

[00:06:56] Like, get this fucking place together.

[00:06:58] That's why I don't do X.

[00:07:00] I don't do X.

[00:07:01] I only pretty much...

[00:07:03] Anything I post, I post on Blue Sky only.

[00:07:06] Like, for our account or something.

[00:07:07] I will not post shit on X anymore.

[00:07:09] I fucking hate that site.

[00:07:11] I feel like the majority of scumbags are on that site.

[00:07:14] I like the community so far, even though there's nowhere near as many people following

[00:07:18] us on Blue Sky as there is on X.

[00:07:20] But I like the community better.

[00:07:22] I like chatting with the people better.

[00:07:24] It's infinitely smaller than X right now, too.

[00:07:26] Sure.

[00:07:27] We've got to give it time.

[00:07:28] And we're in on that early.

[00:07:29] And we're part of all the NHL packs when people sign up.

[00:07:33] If they want to follow all, we're in that.

[00:07:35] So, yeah.

[00:07:36] That should work out long term.

[00:07:39] You know, for the...

[00:07:40] Respectful people on Twitter or X, that's awesome, too.

[00:07:43] You know, because we do enjoy logical banter.

[00:07:47] You know what I mean?

[00:07:47] But, yeah.

[00:07:48] The attacks for no reason.

[00:07:52] The second, like, the opposing fan base gets a hold of it, because there is, like, a sort

[00:07:56] of insular devils community.

[00:07:58] And once it starts, once something blows up and, like, gets outside of that community,

[00:08:01] it's just, like, that's when all the trolls start weighing in.

[00:08:04] And, like, you know, when I woke up this morning, I had, like, hundreds of notifications.

[00:08:09] And I was just scrolling through.

[00:08:10] Oh, it's like, Jesus Christ, man.

[00:08:12] Like, I was like, actually, what that guy said is pretty funny.

[00:08:14] I might keep that one in the hopper.

[00:08:16] That guy's an anti-Semitic.

[00:08:18] That guy's racist.

[00:08:19] That guy's an asshole.

[00:08:20] And guess where they're all from?

[00:08:23] North Carolina.

[00:08:24] South Carolina.

[00:08:25] South Carolina.

[00:08:27] Forgot.

[00:08:28] That's where the Canes is.

[00:08:28] Yeah, we did get the Atlas out for that.

[00:08:31] Well, maybe they should move to South Carolina after the way they acted, Chris.

[00:08:34] Well, I guess we should dive into the two games that we just had against the Canes.

[00:08:39] Do you want to start good first, bad second, or end with the good?

[00:08:44] Go with the good.

[00:08:45] Go with the good.

[00:08:46] All right.

[00:08:46] We're going to let Tim simmer a little bit here on the bad.

[00:08:49] All right.

[00:08:50] So, you know, okay, so you want to start with the good?

[00:08:52] Yeah.

[00:08:53] All right.

[00:08:53] So, Friday night's game at the Rock.

[00:08:56] I mean, what could you say?

[00:08:57] I mean, they looked fantastic.

[00:08:59] Marky looked great.

[00:09:00] I mean, everything you could want from a team playing a team as good as the Canes,

[00:09:04] just, you know, I thought the Devils brought it on every level.

[00:09:08] I thought that they, I thought the Canes couldn't touch us at that point in that game.

[00:09:13] I really did.

[00:09:14] I mean, everything that the Canes did positive, we were able to counter and stay on top of.

[00:09:21] Like, it was just a very well-played, well-structured game, and Markstrom was phenomenal.

[00:09:28] I mean, what was your guys' take on Friday's game at home against the Canes?

[00:09:32] Tim, we'll start with you.

[00:09:34] Yeah.

[00:09:35] You know, it was a similar kind of the way we've been playing, you know, probably gave

[00:09:40] them a little bit more chance-wise.

[00:09:42] I think we sort of expected that going in.

[00:09:45] You know, Carolina's a much better team than the teams we have been playing coming up,

[00:09:49] plus the break.

[00:09:50] You know, we know Carolina's just going to spam shots everywhere.

[00:09:53] Like, if you look at actually, like, their shot maps, it's fucking hilarious.

[00:09:57] Like Keefe said, he was like, these guys will shoot from the parking lot if they can.

[00:10:01] Right.

[00:10:02] And a couple of shots look like they come from, like, the snack bar.

[00:10:07] We got the first goal, you know, kind of kept them, kept their, sorry, no, actually,

[00:10:11] they got the first goal.

[00:10:12] They got the first goal, yeah.

[00:10:13] We got it right back.

[00:10:15] You know, we didn't really give up all that much dangerous.

[00:10:18] Like, we gave up volume, but a lot of it wasn't particularly dangerous, except for a

[00:10:21] couple times where Marky made some massive saves.

[00:10:24] Yeah.

[00:10:25] And situationally, he made some extremely big saves.

[00:10:28] Like, it was a couple breakaways, two on one.

[00:10:31] Really bailed us out, and they were important times.

[00:10:33] And the game was 2-2.

[00:10:34] He made a huge save.

[00:10:35] We'd just gone on 3-2.

[00:10:36] He made a huge save.

[00:10:38] And we'd slay him the door in the third.

[00:10:40] You know, we didn't give them anything in the third.

[00:10:41] You know, they had a couple of, you know, ozone possession times, but nothing really

[00:10:45] dangerous came out of it.

[00:10:46] So that was the, that game was kind of the formula of what we're going to need to do

[00:10:50] to beat elite teams in the playoffs.

[00:10:54] Bob?

[00:10:55] Yeah.

[00:10:56] What I liked a lot about that game is that, although it would have been awesome to go,

[00:11:00] what, eight games under 20 shots, it was kind of good that we won a game where we didn't

[00:11:06] do that, you know, where we did face some more volume.

[00:11:09] Like Tim said, maybe it wasn't the, you know, the hardest shots.

[00:11:12] But I do recall specifically, too, Markstrom made some key saves at very, very key times.

[00:11:18] I think twice, right after we scored within 30 seconds, he made like a game saver, which

[00:11:24] is just huge and something that wouldn't happen last year.

[00:11:26] But to win that game, to win a game differently, to win a game that was probably a harder fight

[00:11:31] than the score indicated was really good.

[00:11:34] And on home, I like the fact that we're showing some life at home, you know, and then anytime

[00:11:39] you do this, this kind of back to back with travel included, you know, whatever time they

[00:11:46] would leave the rock, right?

[00:11:47] What midnight?

[00:11:48] I don't know.

[00:11:48] I mean, both teams have to do it.

[00:11:50] I get that.

[00:11:51] But anytime you do that and you're going to the same team the next day, that's a coin flip,

[00:11:55] especially when you got two teams like this that are closely matched, you know?

[00:12:00] So I said it the last pod, I wouldn't be concerned.

[00:12:04] And I kind of thought it's likely going to be a split.

[00:12:07] I think maybe in a different situation, a game in between or something like that, maybe

[00:12:12] I would have felt a little more comfortable saying, yeah, Devils take two.

[00:12:15] But, you know, they didn't, but the first game was extremely important.

[00:12:19] And I think that they proved what they need to prove to themselves.

[00:12:22] And the second game, a little different.

[00:12:24] Well, I think they, you're right.

[00:12:26] They did prove what they needed to prove to themselves.

[00:12:28] I also think they proved it to the Canes.

[00:12:30] You know, I just think the way the Devils play, it's really frustrating when you have

[00:12:37] that much speed and that much physicality and great goaltending behind it.

[00:12:42] They are a hard, hard team to play against.

[00:12:44] And I think we had the Canes on their heels for a lot of that game.

[00:12:48] And Canes, look, they're a great team.

[00:12:50] I'm not going to take anything away from them.

[00:12:52] But I also think that if you take away the bullshit from game two, we sweep this weekend series.

[00:13:00] I really believe that.

[00:13:02] I think that the Devils had the momentum.

[00:13:04] You're going into the third period.

[00:13:06] Well, I guess I'll jump on the second game now.

[00:13:09] Tied 2-2.

[00:13:11] And then, you know, I guess we can talk about the first and second period.

[00:13:15] Or we could talk about the first 13 minutes of the third.

[00:13:17] But it was the last seven of the third.

[00:13:19] I mean, that's really where shit just hit the fan that I'm still trying to make sense of.

[00:13:24] These referees and what they fucking did in that game.

[00:13:27] And, you know, I don't know if there's anything you guys want to discuss about game two that before the bullshit.

[00:13:35] If there is, go ahead.

[00:13:37] But I'd like to get into the bullshit.

[00:13:38] I'll say one thing.

[00:13:39] I mean, I feel like they showed a lot of character being tied going into the third.

[00:13:44] Because I think anybody watching that game would say, yeah, the Devils weren't having their best game.

[00:13:48] And that's the great thing about this team.

[00:13:50] They were kind of outmatched the first two periods.

[00:13:52] And yet they still hung around.

[00:13:54] And had it not been for these last seven minutes that we're surely going to dive into a lot more,

[00:13:58] could have been a completely different outcome.

[00:14:00] So, yeah.

[00:14:00] I just think, you know, kudos to the team because some nights you just don't have it.

[00:14:04] But when you still got that kind of fight in you to bring it to that level and to be within basically seven or 13 minutes of maybe a point at least.

[00:14:13] And Allen was great in those first two periods.

[00:14:16] I mean, he really was.

[00:14:17] I mean, the second goal, you know, that was a softie.

[00:14:20] But the guy hasn't played in, what, 10, 11 days, something like that.

[00:14:23] He comes in.

[00:14:24] He's ice cold.

[00:14:25] He played very good in the first two periods.

[00:14:27] But you saw him getting gassed in the third.

[00:14:30] And floodgates started to open a little bit.

[00:14:32] But I just attribute a lot of that just to the shit hitting the fan.

[00:14:36] And, you know, Tim, you wrote about it.

[00:14:39] I'll let you start with, you know, what happened there?

[00:14:43] What the hell is going on?

[00:14:46] Just back up a second.

[00:14:47] Like, I think the second game they were better than us.

[00:14:51] You know, they controlled a lot more at the time.

[00:14:53] You know, it was somewhat even in us going up two to one.

[00:14:57] And I was like, all right, maybe, you know, this is something we can just kind of cling to and hold on to.

[00:15:03] You know, going back to the situational goaltending from Markstrom.

[00:15:06] Like, you know, Jake Allen was having a hell of a game.

[00:15:09] Like, he was keeping us in that game.

[00:15:10] He made some incredible saves.

[00:15:12] They had a couple of shorthanded opportunities.

[00:15:14] A few breakaways.

[00:15:15] A few two-on-ones.

[00:15:16] He made some incredible saves.

[00:15:18] And he was swallowing the puck.

[00:15:19] Like, it was hitting him and just sticking to him.

[00:15:21] Wasn't giving up any big rebounds.

[00:15:23] You know, that's one of the kind of philosophies behind Carolina's shot volume game is to get rebounds out.

[00:15:30] And he wasn't kicking anything out.

[00:15:32] So, then just like, you know, they scored that second goal.

[00:15:36] You know, yeah, he wants that back.

[00:15:38] That's fine.

[00:15:40] Then the just shit just started.

[00:15:43] The wheels just fell off.

[00:15:44] Like, that bullshit on Timo was unbelievable.

[00:15:48] Like, I cannot believe just sort of not like that they threw him out.

[00:15:54] You know, I don't think it was a five-minute major.

[00:15:56] A two-minute maybe would have been the maximum based on the knee-on-knee hit.

[00:16:01] I wouldn't have called anything on that.

[00:16:03] I'm going to be 100% honest.

[00:16:04] And that's what I'm kind of getting to is they didn't call anything until Natchez was fucking crying on the ground.

[00:16:13] Like, he was doing like the little kid thing where he's like holding his knee and peeking over his shoulder and making sure they got it.

[00:16:17] They helped him off the ice.

[00:16:19] And during the replay, the way his knee bent, you're like, oh shit, that looks really bad.

[00:16:24] Like, I don't want anybody to get hurt.

[00:16:26] But like, the way he was nursing his knee and the way they helped him off the ice, I was like, do they have like fucking Mr. Miyake back there that like did like the clap and rub his knee down?

[00:16:37] Because he was the second Timo got that five in a game.

[00:16:40] That motherfucker was right back on the bench.

[00:16:42] That was some of the like the biggest pussy dirty shit I've ever seen.

[00:16:45] Like, to fake an injury and to lie there on the ground rolling around.

[00:16:51] And Keeves said as much after the game.

[00:16:52] You know, he really hinted at the frustration with like, you only really called that because this guy is rolling around on the ground.

[00:17:01] And of course, Natchez comes out.

[00:17:03] He's on the power play.

[00:17:04] He tests his knee to make sure it's okay.

[00:17:06] We knew it was all fucking okay, this fucking guy.

[00:17:09] And of course, they fucking score on the ensuing power play.

[00:17:12] Like, I just, that was really fucking frustrating.

[00:17:15] I have always talked very highly about the Carolina Hurricanes.

[00:17:20] Always.

[00:17:21] When it comes to the Eastern Conference, they're in a class.

[00:17:24] They're in the upper tier.

[00:17:26] And I always put them there.

[00:17:28] And I respect the hell out of them, mostly because of Rob Brindamore and just how that team plays.

[00:17:33] They always play hard.

[00:17:35] Like the game and all that stuff.

[00:17:36] Yep.

[00:17:36] I lost so much respect for Rob Brindamore and the Carolina Hurricanes after that game last night.

[00:17:44] To have a game, first of all, Rob Brindamore as a player would never have done something like that.

[00:17:51] And I find it hard to believe that that's something that is like coached or whatever.

[00:17:55] But you were behind the bench when this happened.

[00:17:58] Your guy, and then maybe it's brilliant.

[00:18:01] You know, they won the game because of it.

[00:18:02] So maybe it's brilliant.

[00:18:03] But to me, it's dirty pool.

[00:18:04] You know, you got a guy kicked out of a fucking game where the NHL came right out and said,

[00:18:09] no, there's not going to be any suspension for that.

[00:18:11] Like that was ridiculous.

[00:18:12] Like you got a guy kicked out of a game, faked a knee injury.

[00:18:17] And then you come, like you said, if anything, sit out the rest of the fucking game.

[00:18:21] You come out and play three and a half minutes of a five minute major, which you score on.

[00:18:26] And then the Orlov bullshit with Holla.

[00:18:28] We can talk about that.

[00:18:30] But I lost a ton of respect for the Carolina Hurricanes after that.

[00:18:35] Yeah, it's really unfortunate because if the way he got off the ice and how long he stayed on the ice and crawled off,

[00:18:40] if there were any lingering pain back there in the room, any training staff is going to say, we're shutting you down.

[00:18:47] We got to get this checked out.

[00:18:49] It's not worth it, especially for what he is, you know, to that team.

[00:18:52] To be out that quick, that is, it is just really kind of horseshit.

[00:18:56] I don't get it.

[00:18:56] Now, I also don't pretend to understand all the rules all the time with these hits, right?

[00:19:02] I mean, everybody does know that a knee did hit a knee.

[00:19:06] But I looked at it as best as I could, right?

[00:19:08] And I literally did not see him leaning with the knee.

[00:19:12] He led with the shoulder, right?

[00:19:14] He didn't make any different moves with his legs to make contact with the knee.

[00:19:18] Like all the little things that are in the rules that I tried to kind of understand, he didn't do.

[00:19:22] So it's just kind of an unfortunate way that they collided, right?

[00:19:25] But that doesn't make it illegal.

[00:19:27] And it probably shouldn't have been a penalty, like Chris said.

[00:19:30] And then it did alter the game.

[00:19:32] Yeah, I mean, Natchez was the one that, sorry, Chris.

[00:19:36] No, I was just going to say, to me, that was incidental contact.

[00:19:38] That was all it was.

[00:19:39] Natchez moved out of the way.

[00:19:41] Like he was the one that tried to move last minute.

[00:19:43] Timo didn't change course.

[00:19:45] His leg didn't change course.

[00:19:46] He didn't even like get his elbow up.

[00:19:47] He actually tucked his elbow and led with his shoulder.

[00:19:50] Like Timo was just looking to lay a big hit.

[00:19:53] Natchez was the one that put himself in that position.

[00:19:56] And for the refs to then, I don't know what they reviewed.

[00:20:01] MSG was trying their fucking best to show the replay.

[00:20:04] That was kind of a clusterfuck of them.

[00:20:06] Like rewinding and then fast forwarding and then rewinding and fast forwarding.

[00:20:09] But even the Carolina guys, like that was going around on X2.

[00:20:13] Even the Carolina broadcast team was like, yeah, that's not a dirty hit at all.

[00:20:17] I don't know what happened there.

[00:20:18] Well, I listened to some of that when it first happened and they had said like, they're smart

[00:20:24] to call this a major.

[00:20:25] You call it five minutes and then you go back and review it.

[00:20:28] You could always take it away, you know?

[00:20:30] And yeah, that made perfect sense.

[00:20:32] And then I flipped over the MSG feed after that.

[00:20:36] And Danico was, you know, a little bit more, I guess, giving the refs the benefit of the

[00:20:43] doubt.

[00:20:43] Sal was not like Sal was like, what basically this is bullshit.

[00:20:48] And, you know, so I agree with you now.

[00:20:52] And then all the stuff that comes out about these referees after the game that, that this

[00:20:56] refereeing group is like the Carolina is 12, one and oh, and these guys are repping for

[00:21:01] them.

[00:21:02] And that one of the guys played his juniors or whatever in Carolina.

[00:21:06] And like, Brendan Moore was part of his club or whatever the case is like, I'm not a conspiracy

[00:21:11] theorist, but you start thinking like, you know, come on, if you could insert yourself

[00:21:17] into the outcome of the game.

[00:21:19] Well, they did it.

[00:21:20] They surely did it because it definitely.

[00:21:22] And like you said, like Meyer was looking to lay a big hit.

[00:21:25] I don't even know how much Meyer was looking to really lay a big hit as much as like he

[00:21:31] was in his space trying to get to the puck.

[00:21:34] And nature's, like you said, he kind of moved into Meyer's space.

[00:21:38] Like there, it was a knee on knee.

[00:21:40] But to me, it, the reason it shouldn't have been called anything, because I think you

[00:21:44] could have given nature's a knee on knee and the same thing if you, you know, you could

[00:21:48] have argued both ways that, you know, like you said, there was no leg sticking out.

[00:21:52] There was no turning of the body.

[00:21:53] There was none of that.

[00:21:56] But then the, you know, to me, it, that just, I hate to say that the refs fucking had everything

[00:22:02] to do with that loss, but I honestly feel like, I'll say this, the refs had everything to do

[00:22:07] with at least the devils not getting a point in that.

[00:22:11] Yeah.

[00:22:12] Listen, it's very unfortunate, but really, did you guys hear the hot mic with Dano and

[00:22:17] them?

[00:22:17] Like they commercial?

[00:22:19] No.

[00:22:20] They were talking behind the scenes, kind of assessing it between themselves.

[00:22:23] You know, they're like, what, what do they go?

[00:22:24] Why are they looking at it?

[00:22:25] It's because of the knee.

[00:22:26] And then they started to figure out exactly what they were doing.

[00:22:28] And Salvador is in the back.

[00:22:29] He's like, it's because it's their best player.

[00:22:31] Best player sitting there hurts.

[00:22:32] So they're going to look at it.

[00:22:33] They're going to give them a penalty.

[00:22:34] Okay.

[00:22:35] And so that's, can I ask you guys a question?

[00:22:38] From what I've read afterwards, the ref didn't call anything immediately.

[00:22:42] They only called like to Sal's point, like they only called something after he was lying

[00:22:47] around on the ground.

[00:22:48] Right.

[00:22:48] That's when the arm went up.

[00:22:50] Like they, you know, you got to give them a five immediately because then you can review

[00:22:54] it and bump the bully down.

[00:22:56] Like that's, that's the actual rule.

[00:22:58] So that, yeah, exactly.

[00:23:01] So it's just fucking stupid.

[00:23:03] And Chris, you put it perfectly.

[00:23:05] Like, like, like I've always actually respected Carolina.

[00:23:08] I hate those motherfuckers now more than anyone else in our division.

[00:23:12] Now more than those other, that other team that I'm not even going to fucking think about

[00:23:15] anymore.

[00:23:16] Like I fucking hate Carolina.

[00:23:17] And now I don't respect them at all because of that, that cheap, stupid bullshit that they

[00:23:22] pulled off.

[00:23:23] We could talk about Orlov too.

[00:23:25] Let's do that.

[00:23:26] That was a little bit dirty.

[00:23:28] Well, listen, Eric Holla is not the, you know, most liked man in Carolina.

[00:23:35] And, and I'm not a hundred percent sure why I know that.

[00:23:39] Like, I guess when he played there, him and Brindamore kind of didn't see eye to eye as

[00:23:43] far as his ice time and stuff like that.

[00:23:45] And there was a story that like, he laid into Brindamore one time in the dressing room

[00:23:49] in front of the, the team about his ice time and stuff.

[00:23:53] And that kind of just left a bad taste in everybody's mouth and they shipped them off and, you know,

[00:23:59] blah, blah, blah.

[00:23:59] And he's just a relative pain in the ass to them.

[00:24:02] But like the hatred to Holla, like, I think they need to let that go.

[00:24:06] But yes, the hit was, I don't want to say it was, it was, it was, yeah, it was slightly

[00:24:12] dirty on a scale of one to 10 of dirtiness.

[00:24:14] So I give it a six.

[00:24:15] Here's the thing though.

[00:24:16] It, it was going to be dirtier, but actually the Carolina player at the last moment actually

[00:24:23] did turn more towards Holla to take it away from a straight kind of hit from the back.

[00:24:27] I think Holla was going in anyway.

[00:24:30] That's why I agree with him.

[00:24:31] It's, it's dirty ish, you know, but it wound up being not as dirty because the player wound

[00:24:37] up having a square footing facing Holla.

[00:24:39] But again, bang, bang.

[00:24:40] And he was also, he was also crouched down a little bit.

[00:24:43] We kind of were talking about this with, with, you know, the way Rempe hits, you know, like

[00:24:48] legislating headshots and head contact out of the game is going to be really difficult

[00:24:52] because if you take this type of hit out where a guy is crouched down in a vulnerable, vulnerable

[00:24:57] position, like when Jack got run over by Max Pacioretty in Toronto, Jack was just in a

[00:25:04] shitty position and like, yeah, maybe his shoulder caught his head, but like, it's not a dirty

[00:25:07] hit.

[00:25:08] The intent isn't to be dirty.

[00:25:10] What I was thought a little bit, a little bit dirty about Holla.

[00:25:13] And honestly, I'm laughing about it because fuck those guys.

[00:25:15] Fuck Carolina.

[00:25:17] And your little pussies lying around on the ice.

[00:25:19] Holla kind of clips him back with his elbow as he's, as riding the boards.

[00:25:23] And that's what, that's what Orlov was bleeding.

[00:25:25] But Orlov's lying on the ice, same shit that Nate just did.

[00:25:28] Like, like there's like, you just got hit by sniper fire.

[00:25:31] Like maybe like the Carolina arena needs to work on their security a little bit better

[00:25:35] because they're letting snipers in their fucking building.

[00:25:37] Yeah.

[00:25:38] When you're laying there, like you seriously just got shot and then you go to the bench and

[00:25:41] then you come off of the bench.

[00:25:43] Now, I don't know if he was off the bench or on the bench or he was just, okay.

[00:25:47] So that's probably why he's not going to get any kind of extra bullshit after that because

[00:25:52] he was still technically on the ice.

[00:25:53] But he came right back in to the fray and started more of a melee and started the fight with,

[00:26:00] gets into it with Holla who gets the penalty.

[00:26:03] I'm just confused.

[00:26:05] I'm confused of like, you know, it just, it always reminds me of that fucking scene from

[00:26:11] Beverly Hills Cop.

[00:26:12] Like I got thrown out of a fucking window.

[00:26:14] You're arresting me.

[00:26:15] I got thrown out of a, what do you, what do you mean?

[00:26:17] I got thrown out of a fucking window.

[00:26:19] Right.

[00:26:19] Like what are you doing?

[00:26:20] I got seven windows.

[00:26:21] Y'all can jump down.

[00:26:22] I have a moving car.

[00:26:22] You arrest me for jaywalking.

[00:26:24] Like it's the same fucking thing.

[00:26:25] Like I'm just, I'm confused.

[00:26:27] And I'm so done with that fucking scene.

[00:26:29] They didn't call Holla for roughing or an elbow.

[00:26:32] They didn't call any penalties on anybody in that scrum, which like, I like, I like the

[00:26:37] scrum.

[00:26:37] You know what?

[00:26:37] The scrum was appropriate.

[00:26:38] It was a tough hit, maybe a little bit high.

[00:26:41] Yeah.

[00:26:41] Do the scrum.

[00:26:42] You know, that's fine.

[00:26:43] That was appropriate.

[00:26:44] What, what I think Orlov kind of, you know, and, and these are sort of unwritten rules

[00:26:50] ish of sorts for him to come in from the clouds after he left the scrum, when he was lying

[00:26:55] on the ground next to the scrum, like a fucking pussy for him to come in from the clouds and

[00:27:00] jump Holla and then sucker punch him.

[00:27:02] That is real pussy shit.

[00:27:03] Like you can't do that.

[00:27:04] Like, like when you go back to the bench and that's why I was saying like, like the spirit

[00:27:10] of jumping off the bench, like you can't, you can't do that.

[00:27:13] It's the same thing.

[00:27:14] Like he was at the bench.

[00:27:15] He was out of the play.

[00:27:16] Right.

[00:27:18] Just absolute pussy shit.

[00:27:19] Yeah.

[00:27:20] I mean, he should have got the two for that, you know, for roughing.

[00:27:23] And that was a gimme on the Holla.

[00:27:24] Cause they were like, all right, well now we know he did something over on the board.

[00:27:27] So let's just give him two, two and simmer this down.

[00:27:29] When you missed that call originally, again, another call you didn't see that you're just

[00:27:34] going to go ahead and give two minutes to take our love's word for it.

[00:27:37] You know?

[00:27:38] Yeah.

[00:27:38] I mean, that's essentially what it was, you know, and this is, this was something that

[00:27:41] was brewing.

[00:27:42] I mean, they missed a couple of interferences on Timo.

[00:27:44] Timo got hammered twice when he wasn't anywhere near the fucking puck.

[00:27:47] And then I don't know if you guys at least two or three trips.

[00:27:50] Yeah.

[00:27:51] Jarvis, Jarvis kicked Luke's legs or, or kind of slew Luke a little bit at the, at the offensive

[00:27:56] blue line.

[00:27:57] Jarvis was going back for a change, totally away from the play.

[00:27:59] Clipped Luke.

[00:28:00] And that's when Jack got his penalty because Jack had to hook the guy.

[00:28:03] Cause Luke.

[00:28:05] Yeah.

[00:28:06] Yeah.

[00:28:06] They were taught.

[00:28:07] Sal was talking a lot about that.

[00:28:08] Like, you know, Sal seemed very confused, like just starting to get really annoyed by the

[00:28:13] third period of like the amount of shit that was not called.

[00:28:16] And then how all of a sudden New Jersey is getting hammered with all these penalties for

[00:28:21] questionable bullshit that, yeah, I'm, I'm just, I have no respect for that.

[00:28:25] I cannot wait until the spring because we are going to see him and we are just going to

[00:28:29] fucking annihilate them because what these two, four games that we have played them so far

[00:28:34] has shown me is that all in all with Markstrom and goal, we're a better team.

[00:28:40] Devils are a better team.

[00:28:41] And a seven game series devils will beat the Canes.

[00:28:45] It's going to be a fun one.

[00:28:46] I'll tell you that.

[00:28:46] Oh man, it's going to be a bloodbath.

[00:28:48] And we were absolutely, it's like two years ago with the Rangers.

[00:28:50] Like we knew we were playing them in the playoffs from right around now.

[00:28:55] And, and we know we're going to play Carolina.

[00:28:57] It's going to be the second and third seeds in the Metro.

[00:29:00] Unless the Capitals have some epic fallout, which doesn't look like it's going to happen.

[00:29:03] They lost today.

[00:29:04] They lost Detroit today.

[00:29:07] How embarrassing for them.

[00:29:09] Let's not talk about embarrassing losses to bad team.

[00:29:11] We're going to move that under the rug.

[00:29:13] We're going to strip that under the rug.

[00:29:14] We got to play the Ducks.

[00:29:15] Anyway, and I'm sorry I took up so much, so much air there, but like, it just really pisses me off.

[00:29:19] Like that was real pussy shit.

[00:29:20] And Chris, you put it so well where like, I lost a lot of respect for them.

[00:29:24] Like I always thought they played kind of a hard game.

[00:29:26] And the first game, they didn't get a single penalty.

[00:29:28] So like, this is kind of an accumulation of that too.

[00:29:31] The refs aren't biased.

[00:29:32] I was joking when I wrote that for anybody who read that and took it seriously.

[00:29:36] Like several people did.

[00:29:38] The refs aren't biased.

[00:29:40] That's just like a coincidence.

[00:29:41] I just thought it was kind of funny to play.

[00:29:43] Well, it is extremely coincidental that they do tend to favor Carolina.

[00:29:48] Carolina has a great record when this group is repping them.

[00:29:51] That's all I'm saying.

[00:29:52] Like it just, that's, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but that's a little fucking odd.

[00:29:56] I don't know if there's.

[00:29:57] You're going to get, you know, the best crews in the playoffs.

[00:30:00] Yes.

[00:30:01] So that's not going to be a thing.

[00:30:03] And I think with this Carolina team, I think, like you said, in the seven game series,

[00:30:07] they're going to realize that they can't push us around.

[00:30:08] And I think the devils would be the team that's able to kind of sit back and kind of laugh off their mounting frustrations as they try to do and play a certain way.

[00:30:17] Like they did to us two years ago.

[00:30:18] And they're not able to do it.

[00:30:19] I don't think physically they can hang with us.

[00:30:21] I really don't.

[00:30:22] I mean, they can't, they, they have their teams fast.

[00:30:26] They can score goals.

[00:30:27] They shoot from everywhere.

[00:30:28] We went over all that.

[00:30:29] And, and, but I think a seven game series, the way the devils play, that's going to wear you down a hell of a lot quicker than the way that the, the canes play.

[00:30:36] So.

[00:30:37] Yeah.

[00:30:37] I mean, you know, two years ago was, was Carolina's peak.

[00:30:41] I think, I think they are coming down off of that peak a little bit.

[00:30:45] You know, they got, was it two years ago?

[00:30:47] They got swept by Florida.

[00:30:48] Swept by Florida in the Eastern Conference.

[00:30:50] Although Brendan Moore didn't think they got swept.

[00:30:52] Right.

[00:30:52] He said, I don't really look at it as a sweep because every game was like three of them were in overtime and every game was a one goal game.

[00:31:00] But I, last I checked when you lose four in a row in the playoffs, regardless of whether or not you lose by one in every game or you lose by 10 in every game, you're swept.

[00:31:08] That's right.

[00:31:09] They didn't sweep them.

[00:31:09] They mopped the floor with them.

[00:31:13] And then last year, you know, they lost the Rangers and then this upcoming year, they're going to lose to us in their first round.

[00:31:18] So.

[00:31:19] I agree.

[00:31:20] I don't know.

[00:31:21] We're the better team.

[00:31:22] But I don't know if we're going to see them in the first round.

[00:31:23] I do think the Devils are going to win the Metro.

[00:31:25] I think, plus Washington's a great team, but I think that we're going to win the Metro.

[00:31:30] I'm still going President's Trophy.

[00:31:32] I'll take that too.

[00:31:33] And then we can hang our regular season champion.

[00:31:36] Yeah.

[00:31:37] So if we get that fourth win in a row, then we'll get five and six and seven.

[00:31:40] It's like, why can't we win four in a row?

[00:31:42] I don't understand.

[00:31:43] You're not allowed to.

[00:31:44] I don't understand this.

[00:31:44] We keep running into these weird schedule quirks too.

[00:31:47] Like I was looking at the upcoming game.

[00:31:49] Like I didn't realize like we played New Year's Eve and then New Year's Day.

[00:31:53] Right.

[00:31:53] And I'm in then L.A.

[00:31:55] We're the only fucking team playing on New Year's Day.

[00:31:58] Like, like what?

[00:31:59] Like.

[00:32:00] Are we really?

[00:32:00] Yeah.

[00:32:00] Yeah.

[00:32:01] Like, like, again, like what the fuck schedule guy?

[00:32:03] Like, what's wrong with you, man?

[00:32:05] So.

[00:32:05] And I'm navigating around New Year's around Los Angeles.

[00:32:08] Like, are you kidding?

[00:32:09] Like.

[00:32:10] Yeah.

[00:32:11] It's messed up.

[00:32:11] Well, but, but if you go by the way the Devils are, we'll beat Anaheim and we'll beat L.A.

[00:32:17] That's done.

[00:32:18] And then who do we play after?

[00:32:19] San Jose.

[00:32:20] We'll beat them.

[00:32:21] So then we'll lose to the Kraken.

[00:32:23] And that'll be our four.

[00:32:24] That'll be the way.

[00:32:25] So we'll lose to Seattle.

[00:32:25] But then we'll beat the Rangers.

[00:32:27] And when we come back to, to the East Coast and play them in six games from now.

[00:32:32] So.

[00:32:33] Apparently this winning three out of four, Daniel Moa posted, it was something like goes back

[00:32:38] to the last year, like 12 instances where we've been up three times to try to get that

[00:32:43] fourth one.

[00:32:43] We haven't done it in 12 sets of three out of four going like all the way back to last

[00:32:48] year.

[00:32:49] So.

[00:32:49] It's kind of brutal.

[00:32:50] I don't know what the numbers are of that, like how many times we had the opportunity,

[00:32:57] how many times we won three in a row.

[00:32:59] But I did post on here that the last time that we won four in a row was, let me see.

[00:33:08] I had it on here.

[00:33:10] The last time the Devils won four or more in a row was a five game win streak from January

[00:33:15] 7th, 2023 to January 16th, 2023.

[00:33:18] Okay.

[00:33:19] That's the last time.

[00:33:20] Since then, we've had 12 opportunities to get the fourth win and have not.

[00:33:26] It's hard enough just to get the 12 opportunities to do it.

[00:33:29] But then statistically you think you'd do it one of those 12 times.

[00:33:33] Right.

[00:33:34] Yeah.

[00:33:34] Right.

[00:33:34] Honestly, I'd rather win three out of every four than go on multiple two game, three game,

[00:33:41] four game losing streaks.

[00:33:42] Hey, of course.

[00:33:44] You know, three out of four.

[00:33:47] Was that some groundbreaking math for you guys or what?

[00:33:49] Yeah, you are.

[00:33:49] Three out of four wins you the Stanley Cup in 20 games.

[00:33:54] So I'll take it.

[00:33:55] Yeah.

[00:33:56] I'll take it.

[00:33:57] You know.

[00:33:58] Yeah.

[00:33:58] That's 61 and a half wins in the year.

[00:34:00] So, I mean, that's 123 points.

[00:34:05] Yeah.

[00:34:05] It's 750 win percentage.

[00:34:07] Yeah.

[00:34:07] It's pretty good.

[00:34:08] Well, when's the last time that we lost three in a row?

[00:34:10] That was the four game losing streak back in like November, right?

[00:34:15] Yeah.

[00:34:16] Yeah.

[00:34:16] That's it.

[00:34:17] And I don't think we've dropped two.

[00:34:19] And that had two overtime losses in there too.

[00:34:21] Yeah.

[00:34:22] I think we did drop two after that.

[00:34:25] Colorado, Toronto.

[00:34:26] Right.

[00:34:26] I think so.

[00:34:27] Was that the two consecutive games?

[00:34:29] Yeah.

[00:34:30] Because people were freaking out about Markstrom and that Toronto goal.

[00:34:32] But we haven't lost three in a row since then.

[00:34:35] Let me ask you guys a question, actually, speaking of that.

[00:34:38] How many?

[00:34:39] So, obviously, Markstrom's been playing great in December.

[00:34:42] Like, he's, you know, absolutely lights out.

[00:34:45] You know, hasn't lost.

[00:34:47] Like, he had like a 1.1 goals against average.

[00:34:50] 940 save percentage.

[00:34:51] He shot up the ranks of the goal saved above expected.

[00:34:54] He's fifth now.

[00:34:55] Wow.

[00:34:56] Two shutouts.

[00:34:57] And I was thinking about, like, the kind of situational goaltending where Allen, you know,

[00:35:01] we kind of want that second goal that he gave up.

[00:35:03] Like, that would have been great for him to stop.

[00:35:05] But, like, I don't know how many instances of Markstrom giving up, you know, his sort

[00:35:11] of softy goals have actually been really consequential.

[00:35:15] Like, you know, situationally.

[00:35:18] Like, that Toronto one, maybe.

[00:35:20] And then, like, the one against Detroit.

[00:35:22] That Detroit one is the only one I can think of.

[00:35:26] That it was like, okay, that was a bad goal.

[00:35:29] It cost us a game.

[00:35:30] But you're right.

[00:35:31] We talked about this even while it was happening.

[00:35:34] We mentioned that even though he was doing that, which he's doing far less of right now,

[00:35:38] the Devils were still winning the game.

[00:35:40] So, again, because we were just talking about, this is what we're talking about by having,

[00:35:43] you know, moderate goaltending and above can get you out of a lot of jams, you know.

[00:35:47] So, the team did what they need to do with a little bit of offense.

[00:35:50] And it was getting, you're right.

[00:35:52] Consequentially, one, maybe two.

[00:35:54] Yeah.

[00:35:54] Lost opportunities.

[00:35:56] Yeah.

[00:35:56] You know, and it was nice to see him actually get some shot volume against Carolina in that

[00:36:01] first game.

[00:36:02] Like, that's why I kind of kept saying, like, that's kind of a blueprint.

[00:36:04] Like, if you're going to give up that kind of volume, you know, you need Markstrom to be

[00:36:08] there for that.

[00:36:08] And he was.

[00:36:09] Because, you know, seven straight games under 20 shots, you know, people can easily point

[00:36:14] to that and say, well, yeah, he's still not good.

[00:36:16] But I think he's really kind of shutting up some doubters.

[00:36:19] Well, Marty has been here in that his whole career.

[00:36:22] But then playoff time comes and he's lights out.

[00:36:26] So, I mean, look at this stretch of December, right?

[00:36:29] Now, he now, we know he now has the capacity to string together that type of month.

[00:36:36] Now, put that in April.

[00:36:37] Yeah.

[00:36:38] You know what I mean?

[00:36:39] Like, he can do it.

[00:36:40] I don't have a doubt in my mind that Markstrom's a guy that can help this team win a Stanley

[00:36:44] Cup.

[00:36:44] I really don't.

[00:36:44] I, you know, you, I can look at a lot of teams and I say their goaltending is not going

[00:36:49] to cut it.

[00:36:50] It's not going to cut the mustard come playoff time.

[00:36:52] I think that they're not there.

[00:36:54] Uh, I do.

[00:36:55] Carolina is a team that I'm not sure if they don't do something.

[00:36:59] And I don't think they're going to, because we've, I've talked about it.

[00:37:03] We've all talked about it a million times that the way that team is built, they don't

[00:37:06] believe in paying money for a goaltender.

[00:37:09] They believe that it is a very random position and that just having league average is enough

[00:37:18] and, or will be enough over the course of a season to win you enough games, which I agree

[00:37:23] with.

[00:37:24] Over an 82 game season, league average will get you enough if your team is good to get

[00:37:30] you to the dance.

[00:37:31] But can you actually go deep in the playoffs?

[00:37:34] Two reasons the way Carolina, I feel always fails, um, is the, their, their style of play,

[00:37:41] their man-to-man defensive style.

[00:37:43] Uh, like we've talked about this, right?

[00:37:45] There guys get just exhausted playing that style over the course of a seven game series

[00:37:52] and four of those.

[00:37:54] And they're goaltending, you know, I mean, you look at the Carolina game, Carolina Rangers

[00:37:59] series round two last year.

[00:38:02] Clearly the reason the Rangers won that series was because of Igor Shisterkin.

[00:38:07] He stole it.

[00:38:09] He stole it.

[00:38:10] Carolina was coming back, right?

[00:38:11] Kreider gets the hat trick in the game six or whatever.

[00:38:14] It doesn't force the game seven.

[00:38:15] But Igor in that series was lights out.

[00:38:19] Carolina didn't have that kind of goaltending.

[00:38:21] Now Carolina has that type of goaltending.

[00:38:24] They probably beat the Rangers.

[00:38:25] So you need it in the playoffs.

[00:38:26] You need big saves at big times to win playoff rounds.

[00:38:30] And right now, I don't know that there's another goal in a league that's making the big save

[00:38:34] at the right time more than Markstrom.

[00:38:36] I mean, I don't watch every other goalie, but I apparently, um, McKenzie Blackwood is

[00:38:42] because he just got paid.

[00:38:47] Um, I guess, I mean, he plays five games.

[00:38:50] I thought it was like only two.

[00:38:52] Was it five?

[00:38:52] It was five or five.

[00:38:54] I think it was five games.

[00:38:55] All right.

[00:38:56] I want to, I want to dive into that a little bit and get you guys' opinion on, on the McKenzie

[00:39:00] Blackwood thing.

[00:39:01] But first, the 24-25 NHL season still has that new card smell, car smell, not card.

[00:40:19] Do you know that hockey games are the only games you can go to where a player can lie dead

[00:40:23] on the ice and then come back to life?

[00:40:25] Yeah, this happens now in South Carolina.

[00:41:05] Who is that?

[00:41:57] GameTime!

[00:41:58] That was a good one, Bob.

[00:42:00] That was a good one.

[00:42:00] I like that.

[00:42:01] That was juicy to me.

[00:42:02] Before we wrap up the Carolina, I just have to say that my favorite person to follow on X or Blue Sky is Devilish Poet.

[00:42:14] If people are not following Devilish Poet, please go ahead and do that.

[00:42:19] So he is a wordsmith.

[00:42:23] He is brilliant.

[00:42:24] And he wrote a poem about last night's game.

[00:42:27] And if you haven't seen it, please go follow him or her.

[00:42:31] I don't know.

[00:42:32] I'm guessing it's a male.

[00:42:33] But it could be a female.

[00:42:34] I'd like to read his poem.

[00:42:38] Martin curled into a fetal position.

[00:42:40] His soul floated up like an apparition.

[00:42:43] He hardly remembered the vicious attack.

[00:42:45] The air turned cold.

[00:42:47] The light went black.

[00:42:48] Onward, he floated and went towards the light.

[00:42:51] The heavenly gates were silver and bright.

[00:42:53] There was great-grandfather who looked in his prime.

[00:42:57] Marty, my boy, it's just not your time.

[00:42:59] I have to go back.

[00:43:01] I don't want to die.

[00:43:02] And just in that moment, he opened his eye.

[00:43:04] The miracle of life was truly a gift.

[00:43:07] He jumped on the ice without missing a shift.

[00:43:12] Faster than ever with hunger within, he danced and darted and helped his team win.

[00:43:17] A faster recovery I cannot recall.

[00:43:19] Almost as if he was not hurt at all.

[00:43:22] Bravo.

[00:43:23] That's just incredible.

[00:43:24] Is that the greatest poem ever?

[00:43:28] Incredible.

[00:43:29] I was just going to say, he needs to put these in the book.

[00:43:31] He needs to write all of these and put them into a book because I would definitely buy it.

[00:43:36] We could do a poem page on theunclepuckers.com.

[00:43:40] He's got a lot more people checking it out on ExoBush.com.

[00:43:44] We do.

[00:43:44] When I was writing my little joke paragraph about the ref being from Carolina, I tried to write it like that Eminem eight-mile rap battle.

[00:43:56] Where he's like, I know something about you.

[00:44:00] But it didn't work.

[00:44:01] So I moved on.

[00:44:02] No, you're not Rabbit, are you?

[00:44:04] No, no, I'd not be Rabbit.

[00:44:06] But the devilish poet, man, like every game he just cranks these out and they're incredible.

[00:44:10] Like, yeah, I hope he listens to this.

[00:44:12] She, he, you are a poet.

[00:44:14] Well, I know they follow us.

[00:44:15] So, you know, if they do listen, hopefully we'll tag them in the show.

[00:44:20] Yeah, I was going to say, let's tag them.

[00:44:21] No, we read it on the air.

[00:44:22] So, yeah, it's brilliant.

[00:44:24] Absolutely brilliant.

[00:44:25] Is it the air?

[00:44:26] Yeah.

[00:44:27] I guess.

[00:44:28] It's not live, but.

[00:44:29] Live?

[00:44:30] Over the web waves?

[00:44:33] Over the streaming streams?

[00:44:35] Makes sense.

[00:44:36] I don't know.

[00:44:37] On the old iOS?

[00:44:39] Yeah.

[00:44:40] That's a phone, asshole.

[00:44:42] All right.

[00:44:44] So, McKenzie Blackwood plays five games for the Colorado Avalanche and they pay the man

[00:44:49] like pretty solid.

[00:44:51] I don't know what the details were.

[00:44:52] It's like five and a half.

[00:44:53] Five years.

[00:44:54] Five for five?

[00:44:55] 26.25 million?

[00:44:58] Something like that, yeah.

[00:44:59] Why did they do that?

[00:45:01] I mean, is that desperation?

[00:45:04] Tim nailed it when we were all talking about this.

[00:45:06] He's always had talent.

[00:45:07] Okay.

[00:45:08] There's skill there, but he's fragile.

[00:45:10] He's a thin pane of glass.

[00:45:12] But five games in, you're convinced this is the guy you want for five years?

[00:45:16] I think they just wrote themselves off of Stanley Cup for the next five years.

[00:45:19] Like, he's not even going to play half the games.

[00:45:22] Like, I mean, no, I had no ill will towards McKenzie Blackwood.

[00:45:26] No, I always was.

[00:45:26] I really, you know, he, you know, I would have, I think he always was a talented goalie.

[00:45:32] You know, like he was, when he was kind of younger, he was kind of talked about as

[00:45:36] the sort of next generation's number one kind of Canadian goaltender.

[00:45:42] But like, he was not healthy.

[00:45:44] Then he had, you know, the other issues that we don't need to get into.

[00:45:47] But they were doing some fucked up things in his skates.

[00:45:52] Like, did you, have you guys ever read about that?

[00:45:54] What they're actually doing?

[00:45:55] There was like a problem with his heel.

[00:45:58] And is that what you're talking about?

[00:45:59] Yeah, yeah.

[00:46:00] So there's this problem, I guess.

[00:46:01] And it's called like the Bauer heel or something like that, where like it happens in people

[00:46:06] with Bauer skates.

[00:46:08] Actually, I don't even know if it's just Bauer skates.

[00:46:10] It might just be certain people.

[00:46:11] Like Peter Forsberg had these types of problems too.

[00:46:13] But they actually cut a hole in the back of his skate.

[00:46:17] So it wasn't like against it.

[00:46:19] And so his bare back of his heel was just exposed as he was playing.

[00:46:23] And that's kind of why he was playing like shit.

[00:46:25] Because he kind of came back too much, too early.

[00:46:27] I don't know if they forced him back or if he said, I'm back.

[00:46:30] But look, if he's healthy, I think he'll be good for them.

[00:46:34] You know, again, he'll be just about slightly above average.

[00:46:36] And that's what you need, right?

[00:46:38] I just don't see him being healthy.

[00:46:41] I don't understand what Saki's doing, giving out these term contracts to these guys.

[00:46:45] It's like Miles Wood, he gave a six-year deal to.

[00:46:48] That's insane.

[00:46:49] I know.

[00:46:49] You don't need to give these guys this type of term.

[00:46:52] I don't understand it.

[00:46:54] Yeah, and especially guys, like you said, that are both kind of fragile.

[00:46:58] Miles Wood has not played every game in a really long time.

[00:47:01] I don't even know if he's been in the lineup for them recently.

[00:47:04] But again, he's a fourth-line dude.

[00:47:07] I don't know, man.

[00:47:08] It's crazy to me.

[00:47:09] I look at the way Fitzgerald built this team out, and I'm like,

[00:47:14] you have a couple of contracts that you might say aren't going to age really bad,

[00:47:20] you know, might age badly, like the Palat one.

[00:47:22] But you know what?

[00:47:23] I turned my fucking tune on Palat big time.

[00:47:26] I mean, he is playing fantastic.

[00:47:28] So to me right now, he's worth it.

[00:47:30] He's worth every nickel.

[00:47:32] So to me right now, if I had to pick one devil that I'm kind of like, I don't know,

[00:47:38] it would be Eric Holla.

[00:47:39] I have to admit.

[00:47:40] Like, I know we talked about it.

[00:47:41] Tim, you wrote about it.

[00:47:43] 3C is a problem right now.

[00:47:45] Yeah.

[00:47:46] And, you know, I think that something does have to get done if this team –

[00:47:49] I just think that this team can definitely go far in the playoffs

[00:47:54] and make it to a Stanley Cup final with Eric Holla and with the team kind of –

[00:47:58] sorry – constructed as is.

[00:48:00] But I would feel a hell of a lot better if that third line was shored up.

[00:48:05] And I just feel like it's not with Eric Holla.

[00:48:08] I just – he's great on face-offs, and that's about all he gives you.

[00:48:12] It reminds me of the first year he was on the team because he was kind of my whipping boy for a while,

[00:48:16] always talking about how he was just shooting right into the chest,

[00:48:18] like he's not scoring, and then he turns it on towards the end of the year,

[00:48:21] and then he had a much better year the second year.

[00:48:22] So I'm not going to write the guy off.

[00:48:24] I think he's still got something to give.

[00:48:25] But as far as this year goes, he's got to get moving.

[00:48:28] Like, we absolutely need him.

[00:48:30] He – you know, I think – you know, this happened with a couple guys.

[00:48:34] Like, Mercer had, like, one real hot streak,

[00:48:36] and we kind of got a little bit hoodwinked on what his kind of years would actually look like.

[00:48:43] Holla was the same way.

[00:48:44] But he had a very good playoff when we took down the Rangers.

[00:48:49] So that's always still kind of out there.

[00:48:51] But, you know, if you look at Carolina, you know, who, again,

[00:48:56] we're going to be playing probably first round.

[00:48:58] I think their best player on the ice last night was probably Stahl.

[00:49:02] Like, I don't know how this guy is still playing.

[00:49:04] But, like, he had Nico in his back pocket,

[00:49:08] and we need someone to be able to do that, and Holla is not that guy.

[00:49:13] Well, you're right, because a big reason is, like, right now we're putting the Heischer line out

[00:49:20] against the best offensive lines, which is kind of handcuffing their offensive ability to some extent.

[00:49:27] Like, if we had a third line that can do a lot more of that a lot better than Eric Holla does,

[00:49:34] I think that would open up everything along the Devils forward lines.

[00:49:39] Yeah, I agree.

[00:49:40] You know, like, our top six is our top six.

[00:49:42] Like, you know, Plot is fitting in great.

[00:49:44] I know he was our whipping boy, but if he just keeps doing what he's doing,

[00:49:48] like I said, you know, the complaint box is going to be a lot lighter.

[00:49:52] Like, he's simplified his game.

[00:49:54] And, you know, that's how he scored his goal.

[00:49:57] Was it last game or two?

[00:49:59] Last game.

[00:49:59] Yesterday.

[00:50:00] Was it yesterday?

[00:50:01] No.

[00:50:02] When Bratt put – was it Friday?

[00:50:04] Yeah, I thought so.

[00:50:05] Oh, no.

[00:50:06] No, no.

[00:50:06] I'm sorry.

[00:50:07] And this is something I actually wanted to bring up, too.

[00:50:10] So, like, Bratt put Slavin in the spin cycle and then dished off to Pallad.

[00:50:17] I don't know if anybody noticed that Bratt got absolutely fucking buried right after he –

[00:50:21] I didn't.

[00:50:24] And on Mercer's goal two games ago, Jack took that shot of the pass.

[00:50:29] He got leveled.

[00:50:30] He got fucking leveled, too.

[00:50:32] That one I saw.

[00:50:32] And it's like, you know what?

[00:50:33] It's kind of like – it's kind of like a quarterback who's about to get crushed.

[00:50:37] And, you know, like throws like a 40-yard bomb for completion anyway.

[00:50:41] Like, these guys, you know, it goes back to these guys buying in and playing

[00:50:47] and being able to take that kind of punishment.

[00:50:49] I don't want them to get hit like that every game.

[00:50:51] We don't want that.

[00:50:52] But Bratt spinning off, you know, that was the question on Bratt was like,

[00:50:56] well, is he willing to kind of make that kind of driving play?

[00:50:59] And he did.

[00:51:00] And he got leveled for it, but he got a good assist.

[00:51:02] Same with Jack getting buried to make that play.

[00:51:05] So, just kind of a smaller thing that I noticed.

[00:51:09] But do you think that Tom Fitzgerald – like, I think that Holla being on the way out

[00:51:15] or at least replacing him with somebody, I do think that that's going to be the one spot injuries aside

[00:51:21] that Fitz is going to look for.

[00:51:23] I think you have to – like you said, Bobby, he's got to get moving

[00:51:27] or you got to get somebody in there that can.

[00:51:30] And I'm not 100% bought on Holla.

[00:51:32] I was never a big Holla fan.

[00:51:34] I was – you know, two years ago last year, I just was never a huge fan of his.

[00:51:39] I just want to see more.

[00:51:41] I know there was talk about, well, maybe we move him to the fourth line,

[00:51:44] but I don't want to fuck with our fourth line.

[00:51:46] I'm happy with the fourth line.

[00:51:48] I'm happy with every line except for Eric Holla.

[00:51:52] Maybe I'm just – maybe I should be a Canes fan with all my Holla hate.

[00:51:57] I don't know.

[00:51:58] Yeah, you know, I think the original intention of him was being our fourth C.

[00:52:04] You know, I think – I like Dowling, but Holla's – I think Holla's a better player than Dowling.

[00:52:10] You know, and if you put Holla in that 4C spot, bring someone in that can kind of play

[00:52:16] those matchup minutes against the top center.

[00:52:20] Excuse me.

[00:52:22] I don't know, but I think, you know, our bottom six is pretty clearly where we need the help.

[00:52:27] Yeah, yeah.

[00:52:28] And I don't know how badly we do need it, but we – I mean, he's definitely going to upgrade the team somehow.

[00:52:34] And I trust in Fitz and whatever he decides to do.

[00:52:37] He's going to do what's best for this team.

[00:52:39] And I think you're going to have a lot of players that are going to be willing to say,

[00:52:42] yes, I want to go to New Jersey.

[00:52:43] So he's going to have an option to pick, I think.

[00:52:47] Not going to be like kind of the Rangers where you're kind of stuck with whoever's kind of left out there

[00:52:52] and what you're trying to –

[00:52:54] So many bad deals.

[00:52:56] So, I mean, I do want to talk a little bit more about them and a couple of other things.

[00:53:00] But just, you know, before we wrap up tonight, is there anything that you guys want to go over?

[00:53:04] Well, we need to talk about the garbage goalie.

[00:53:08] Well, no, we do that on Thursday.

[00:53:11] Oh, we're not going to mention who until Thursday.

[00:53:13] No, we're not going to mention who won until Thursday.

[00:53:16] But you can mention – well, I guess you could tell everybody who won.

[00:53:18] No, no, I got the fan reaction.

[00:53:20] So we can at least put that out there.

[00:53:21] And then we'll go back on it.

[00:53:22] Well, I wanted to say one thing speaking of fan reaction.

[00:53:25] If anybody who's listening has any fun thoughts on guys that you're targeting,

[00:53:31] you're interested in, send us a note on X or Blue Sky.

[00:53:35] Let us know who we should be looking at.

[00:53:38] Yeah, I'd love to hear –

[00:53:40] And then we can dive into it and then bring it on.

[00:53:41] Yeah, exactly.

[00:53:42] Yeah, I'd love to hear what the fans think of who Tom Fitzgerald should target.

[00:53:47] Or maybe you guys feel like this team is perfect the way it is and we don't have to move anybody.

[00:53:51] But I highly doubt Devil fans are that content with this team right now.

[00:53:58] I see guys who are ready to ship Dougie out already like halfway through the season.

[00:54:03] No, we're not shipping Dougie out.

[00:54:05] I think we're about two years away from that before –

[00:54:08] Yeah, I agree with that.

[00:54:11] So who won in the fan polling on the garbage goalie?

[00:54:15] So the fan polling was close.

[00:54:15] So at 34%, we got the fans saying that Shosturkin will be the garbage goalie of the week.

[00:54:21] 31% said Jari.

[00:54:23] 16% said Sorokin.

[00:54:25] And 19% says Merzlikens.

[00:54:28] That's exactly how it went down, isn't it?

[00:54:32] Close.

[00:54:33] It was – yeah, it was close.

[00:54:35] It might be exactly, yeah.

[00:54:38] What time was it in New York yesterday?

[00:54:41] Do you remember?

[00:54:42] It was five past evening.

[00:54:44] It was five past Shosturkin, right?

[00:54:46] Five past Shosturkin.

[00:54:47] All right, let's go.

[00:54:48] Let's do it.

[00:54:49] All right, go ahead.

[00:54:50] Just anybody.

[00:54:51] I mean just – this is laughable that this man commanded this kind of money.

[00:54:56] And I picked him for garbage goalie of the week after looking at his stats and saying, oh, he had two or three good games in a row.

[00:55:02] Time to let in five.

[00:55:04] Like that was just like a hunch.

[00:55:06] I don't have – I don't have the numbers here, but I think his save percentage was 638, 636 or something.

[00:55:13] Yeah, it was like a really good high school batting average.

[00:55:16] Yeah, exactly.

[00:55:18] It was a really good high school batting average.

[00:55:20] Dude, that's – I mean, I don't want to blame, put all the blame on Shosturkin because that team is so bad in front of him.

[00:55:28] I mean, but you can't depend on Shosturkin to win you every game, obviously, because he's going to have games, which they do seem a lot more frequent, these five and six goals that he's letting in.

[00:55:40] They do seem a lot more frequent than ever.

[00:55:42] But, I mean, Tim, you sent the article from the New York Post that this team has basically given up on Lobbillette.

[00:55:48] It was on their paywall, so I couldn't read it.

[00:55:50] Yeah, I know.

[00:55:51] I couldn't either.

[00:55:52] I forgot.

[00:55:52] I'm not paying for the fucking Post Plus.

[00:55:54] Get the fuck out of here, Brooks.

[00:55:56] So, I mean, I was hearing last week that they were not at their wit's end with Peter Lobbillette, that they were okay with him.

[00:56:04] And it was Chris Jury that was the problem.

[00:56:06] And now it's Lobbillette's the problem.

[00:56:08] I think this team is so far fucking gone.

[00:56:12] It doesn't matter who they bring in, coach-wise.

[00:56:15] I mean, who's out there?

[00:56:16] I mean, are they going to seriously go and, I mean, you fire Lobbillette, are they going to hire LeBlanc, whatever his name is?

[00:56:23] The guy that just got fired from Detroit?

[00:56:25] LeBlanc?

[00:56:26] I wouldn't be surprised to see Quenville get a look there.

[00:56:30] Does Quenville want to go there, though?

[00:56:33] No, I don't think he would.

[00:56:34] I don't think he wants to step into that.

[00:56:36] But it's just like such a dysfunctional thing.

[00:56:39] Like, I have their Puckpedia page up, like, that has all their contract status.

[00:56:43] This will give you a good chuckle.

[00:56:46] Guess what year Mika Zibanejad is signed until?

[00:56:50] Oh, my God.

[00:56:51] Two thousand and thirty.

[00:56:55] Two thousand twenty-eight.

[00:56:57] Two thousand twenty-eight.

[00:56:58] Two thousand twenty-eight.

[00:57:00] So, not even just a no-trade clause, a no-movement clause.

[00:57:04] So, they can't do the bullshit that they did to Goodrow to him.

[00:57:07] Like, they can't even waive him.

[00:57:08] So, and it's funny because Puckpedia puts an anchor next to the name of the person.

[00:57:13] He's literally a fucking anchor.

[00:57:15] Panarin has two more years.

[00:57:16] Kreider has three more years.

[00:57:17] Trocek has four more years.

[00:57:20] Lafreniere has four more years.

[00:57:22] He hasn't improved.

[00:57:23] Keandre Miller seems to be their new whipping boy.

[00:57:25] Like, he just hasn't progressed.

[00:57:28] He comes out and writes a big fucking post that says,

[00:57:31] We're going to be ready.

[00:57:33] We are rested.

[00:57:34] This is exactly what this team needs.

[00:57:36] And then they get lit up six to one or six to two or whatever.

[00:57:40] Their decor is awful.

[00:57:42] Here's the problem with the organization.

[00:57:44] Here's the problem with giving that much of your cap to a goalie and to that position.

[00:57:49] And again, we talked about how hard of a place it was for them to be

[00:57:52] and having, quote-unquote, the best goalie in the world.

[00:57:54] And you got to pay them.

[00:57:55] You don't want to lose them.

[00:57:56] You give up that kind of money.

[00:57:58] You're making the assumption that this guy's going to be the one to bail you out

[00:58:01] when we're a shitty team.

[00:58:03] And this is exactly what happens when your overpaid goalie is not bailing you out

[00:58:07] when you're a shitty team.

[00:58:09] Now you're just going to fall into a river of obscurity for like ever.

[00:58:13] It's great.

[00:58:14] His contract hasn't even kicked in yet.

[00:58:16] Like, you know, that big money contract has not even kicked in yet.

[00:58:20] And this is what you're dealing with.

[00:58:21] But, I mean, maybe they can move Panarin and get something in return.

[00:58:27] Maybe you're not going to get anything in return for Kreider.

[00:58:30] You can't move Zibanejad.

[00:58:34] Who were the other guys on that list?

[00:58:36] I had Trocek.

[00:58:37] Trocek is valuable.

[00:58:38] I wouldn't trade Trocek, though.

[00:58:39] He's like the only one on the team that's got a heart.

[00:58:42] He should actually, like, I mean, if Kreider hadn't fallen off a cliff so badly,

[00:58:46] I'd say Trocek's probably the next in line to be captain.

[00:58:48] But let me ask you a question now.

[00:58:50] How many times has Chris Kreider been overlooked to be captain of that team?

[00:58:56] What is it about Chris Kreider that they don't want to put the C on him?

[00:58:59] Because he's been there longer than anybody.

[00:59:01] And he has been overlooked many times for the captaincy.

[00:59:05] That shows me that he's not captain material for whatever reason.

[00:59:10] Yeah, it's interesting.

[00:59:12] Maybe somewhere in the executive ranks they feel if they put that letter on him

[00:59:15] that it would change him or his game.

[00:59:18] I don't know.

[00:59:19] Yeah, at the time when Trigger came in, maybe they thought, like, he wasn't ready.

[00:59:23] I don't know.

[00:59:24] You know, that's a good question.

[00:59:25] I remember kind of the dialogue about it.

[00:59:27] But you've got to have, like, foresight too, right?

[00:59:30] Like, you've got to look at the dog organization given he should have seen.

[00:59:33] Some people would say it was a little early.

[00:59:35] But they would say, well, no, we're going to let him grow into this

[00:59:38] and become the captain that we need, the captain that we have right now.

[00:59:41] So now in hindsight, great move.

[00:59:43] But as a general manager, you need to have the foresight

[00:59:45] to be able to do things like that in the falls to do it.

[00:59:49] Yeah, and that's why I think Trocek is probably the best guy

[00:59:52] for that position right now because he's, I mean, like you said,

[00:59:56] he's the only one that has a pulse on that team.

[00:59:58] And, you know, he generally gives a shit.

[01:00:00] And I think that the team would follow him.

[01:00:02] But I just think there's so much dysfunction.

[01:00:05] And I can't put my finger on it.

[01:00:07] Like, it's so great listening to, like, even today.

[01:00:10] Like, I'm coming home from work.

[01:00:12] I just watched my Vikings win the biggest game of the year,

[01:00:16] beating their rival Packers.

[01:00:18] It's Devils, Rangers, Vikings, Packers.

[01:00:20] Like, those rivalries are huge.

[01:00:22] So as I'm driving home, and I do this with Ranger games

[01:00:26] and Devil and Ranger games too, I don't listen to the Vikings stuff.

[01:00:31] I don't want to hear everybody talk about how great they were.

[01:00:34] I want to listen to the Packers stuff and listen to their fan base

[01:00:37] and their hosts and their media losing their minds.

[01:00:41] To me, that's the best thing.

[01:00:43] I just – I love trolling these motherfuckers.

[01:00:46] So, like, that's what I –

[01:00:47] You do find more joy in other people's loss than your win.

[01:00:50] I love that.

[01:00:50] Oh, yes.

[01:00:51] I totally do.

[01:00:52] I totally do.

[01:00:54] And, like, listening to Ranger stuff is just, like –

[01:00:58] there's just so many different sides.

[01:01:00] There's the ones that are just completely –

[01:01:03] like we were last year.

[01:01:04] Just, like, at their wits' end.

[01:01:07] Like, how come nothing is being fucking done?

[01:01:10] I don't care what happens the rest of this year,

[01:01:12] but you've got to move this person, this person, this person.

[01:01:15] Fire that guy.

[01:01:16] This person.

[01:01:16] Whatever.

[01:01:17] The hot dog vendor in, you know, this section is a fucking piece of shit

[01:01:21] and he's ruining the team.

[01:01:22] It's like you're ready to just burn everything down.

[01:01:24] That's kind of how I was last year with this team.

[01:01:28] But then there's the ones that generally are trying to figure out what's wrong.

[01:01:32] And they have, you know, a million different excuses and all this other stuff.

[01:01:37] Then there's, of course, the ones that are just ready to cry.

[01:01:39] Those are the best ones that are just, like –

[01:01:42] they fill themselves up with false hope where –

[01:01:45] it's kind of like what Keiondre Miller did yesterday, right?

[01:01:48] Like, we're going to be ready.

[01:01:49] And they're like, this is what we need, right?

[01:01:51] We had a great period, won.

[01:01:53] Now we're going into the second period.

[01:01:56] We're going to – this is exactly what –

[01:01:57] they have all this false hope and then they completely get kicked in the balls.

[01:02:01] Those are my favorite because I just love listening to them afterwards

[01:02:05] and they just are so deflated and defeated.

[01:02:08] It's fantastic.

[01:02:09] But, like, I generally look at this team and I don't know what the fuck is wrong with it.

[01:02:14] Like, everything?

[01:02:17] Could it really be everything?

[01:02:20] You know –

[01:02:22] Go ahead, buddy. Sorry.

[01:02:23] I'm just – just like last year.

[01:02:26] And again, the core of the team was a good team.

[01:02:28] But there was a mystique about them.

[01:02:31] There was something that wasn't going to change.

[01:02:33] The way they were playing and accumulating points

[01:02:35] and just things were working out for them and the universe corrected itself

[01:02:39] and now they're on that same thing backwards.

[01:02:42] Like, it's not going to change.

[01:02:43] They're too far gone.

[01:02:45] This – they can come back next year and be a playoff team.

[01:02:48] Maybe. Doubt it.

[01:02:49] They could.

[01:02:50] But not this year.

[01:02:51] Like, it's just – it's almost unexplainable.

[01:02:53] It's just falling apart.

[01:02:54] They are absolutely not making the playoffs this year.

[01:02:58] That's the other thing.

[01:03:00] We can get this thing going.

[01:03:01] We can still make it.

[01:03:02] We're only – we're only four points out.

[01:03:05] We have to jump six teams to get there, but we're only four points out.

[01:03:09] You know, you need to build teams, you know, down the middle and defensively, right?

[01:03:14] And I think with Mika Zibanejad being as bad as he is

[01:03:18] and how far he's fallen off a cliff,

[01:03:20] he just looks like he doesn't give a fuck when he's skating around at the end.

[01:03:24] Have you ever seen the movie Click?

[01:03:26] Adam Sandler where he gets the remote

[01:03:28] and there's a scene where Terry Crews –

[01:03:30] you stop that.

[01:03:31] It's a fucking delightful movie.

[01:03:33] I'm very easily amused, all right?

[01:03:36] Where Terry Crews, I was singing – you know, the black guy Terry Crews.

[01:03:40] Big Jack guy.

[01:03:42] He's sitting in a convertible singing a song,

[01:03:44] bobbing his head and stuff like that.

[01:03:46] That's how I picture Chris listening to, like, Rangers podcast.

[01:03:50] Windows down, just like,

[01:03:52] this is so fucking fun.

[01:03:54] But, like, with Zibanejad, like, he –

[01:03:56] like you said, he looks completely miserable.

[01:03:59] Like, he does not want to play for the Rangers.

[01:04:00] I understand he has no movement clause, but, like,

[01:04:04] why would you –

[01:04:05] I mean, you would think he would want to get the fuck out of there at this point.

[01:04:07] Like, is he seriously holding them hostage?

[01:04:11] Or are they not willing to move on from him?

[01:04:13] Like, if I was Mika Zibanejad, I would go up and be like,

[01:04:16] it ain't working, man.

[01:04:17] Trade my ass to Boston.

[01:04:19] He makes eight and a half million.

[01:04:20] Like, I just don't see anybody being like, yeah, we'll take that contract.

[01:04:24] Like, that's –

[01:04:24] that's, you know, the other side of the problem.

[01:04:26] You know, it's like,

[01:04:27] what, are they going to get a fourth-round pick and retention for him?

[01:04:29] Like, I –

[01:04:30] What did they sign him for?

[01:04:31] Eight years?

[01:04:33] Something like that, yeah.

[01:04:33] He was an eight or seven.

[01:04:35] Yeah.

[01:04:35] He just fell off quick,

[01:04:36] and I feel like it started with the playoff round against us.

[01:04:39] I feel like he totally disappeared in that playoff,

[01:04:41] and I don't know how good he did last year.

[01:04:43] I don't know if you guys –

[01:04:43] He had a good year last year.

[01:04:45] Did he have a good year?

[01:04:45] It is okay.

[01:04:46] It's like he got quieter quick.

[01:04:48] But his playoffs,

[01:04:50] he has not recovered from his playoffs last year.

[01:04:52] Like, him and Panarin,

[01:04:54] like, they were terrible last year in the playoffs.

[01:04:56] It was two years in a row, too.

[01:04:57] Yes.

[01:04:58] Two years in a row that they have not shown up.

[01:05:00] I mean, he had 26 goals and 72 points last year.

[01:05:03] That's not an awful –

[01:05:04] You know, you want a little bit more.

[01:05:05] I don't know if it's eight and a half million, but, you know.

[01:05:07] But he had 90 –

[01:05:08] He had over 90 points the year before that, you know,

[01:05:10] and almost 40 goals.

[01:05:12] He –

[01:05:13] You know, two years ago, their power play was outstanding,

[01:05:16] and he was a large part of his Kreider net front

[01:05:19] and that kind of Ovechkin spot, ripping one-timers.

[01:05:23] He's not hitting that shot anymore.

[01:05:24] He has six goals so far this year.

[01:05:26] Jesus.

[01:05:27] Wow.

[01:05:28] And it's just, you know, when –

[01:05:31] And he's never had speed.

[01:05:32] He's never been a fast player.

[01:05:35] He's actually sneaky big.

[01:05:37] I think he's –

[01:05:39] Yeah, he's 12.

[01:05:40] He's 6'2", 200.

[01:05:41] So, he just –

[01:05:43] But he doesn't use that frame really all that well.

[01:05:46] Like, I don't know.

[01:05:47] It's just crazy just how he's fallen off a cliff.

[01:05:50] He could probably get rejuvenated somewhere else.

[01:05:52] Yeah.

[01:05:52] But at this point, you know, moving to the wing.

[01:05:56] I don't know, but it's fun to watch,

[01:05:58] and I don't see it getting any better.

[01:06:00] I mean, tomorrow they play the Panthers.

[01:06:01] Yeah, have fun with that one.

[01:06:03] You're completely outclassed in Tampa.

[01:06:05] But you're going to be completely outclassed against Florida.

[01:06:09] I don't know if they're ever going to win a fucking game again.

[01:06:11] Here's the problem, though, is like I want them to be mediocre.

[01:06:15] I don't want them to be so bad that they're a lottery team

[01:06:18] because this upcoming draft has five just fucking studs in it at the top.

[01:06:22] So, if they fall –

[01:06:23] Like, this would be what would happen is like they would be so fucking bad

[01:06:26] that they'd luck into like another top five pick.

[01:06:30] And I hope it's not James Higgins because I don't want them to see

[01:06:33] the Rangers ruin another prospect,

[01:06:35] and particularly an up-and-coming American prospect.

[01:06:37] But that's what I was just going to say to you.

[01:06:39] Like, them drafting, like, oh, there's five studs,

[01:06:41] and they're going to get a top five pick.

[01:06:43] They'll probably pick somebody that's like projected to go in the second round.

[01:06:47] Like, who cares what they do?

[01:06:48] I don't trust Chris Jury to fucking be able to draft well.

[01:06:51] I mean, this is a fucking fan base that cheered when the Devils took Jack Hughes

[01:06:56] because they wanted Capocacco so bad.

[01:06:59] Like, stop.

[01:07:00] Just stop.

[01:07:01] Your fan base –

[01:07:01] They just convinced themselves.

[01:07:03] They lied to themselves to make it feel like they won.

[01:07:06] They knew Jack was the better player, but they had to throw that narrative out there.

[01:07:09] Of course they did.

[01:07:10] That we're winning this thing, and the Devils are stupid.

[01:07:13] And that is just the ultimate egg in your face.

[01:07:15] He did play against men, though.

[01:07:17] So, you know.

[01:07:18] Right, had that work out.

[01:07:19] Yeah.

[01:07:20] I mean, about as good as the Flyer fans that were told us that, you know,

[01:07:26] Nolan was going to be a hell of a lot better than Heischer.

[01:07:29] Yeah.

[01:07:30] Patrick.

[01:07:31] What was his name?

[01:07:32] Nolan Patrick?

[01:07:33] Nolan Patrick.

[01:07:33] You got it right both times.

[01:07:35] Yeah.

[01:07:36] Yeah.

[01:07:36] Jesus, imagine that alternate universe.

[01:07:39] Where would the Devils be right now?

[01:07:41] Yeah.

[01:07:41] Where would the Devils be right now with Capocacco and Nolan Patrick?

[01:07:46] I mean, Nolan Patrick's not even in the league, is he?

[01:07:48] Yeah.

[01:07:49] And then you think about the ripple effect.

[01:07:50] We don't want to, you know, we have Owen Power instead of Luke Hughes.

[01:07:54] You know, it's just the ripple effect.

[01:07:55] Oh, my God.

[01:07:55] We turn into Buffalo Sabres.

[01:07:57] Yeah.

[01:07:57] We're 15 years into the rebuild looking for the next five to actually start playing good.

[01:08:01] Yeah.

[01:08:02] Next year will be our year, guys.

[01:08:03] Yeah.

[01:08:04] Wow, man.

[01:08:05] I tell you, they did a fantastic job with this Devils team because they are primed for a nice, deep run this year.

[01:08:10] And the Rangers can watch us from their golf course.

[01:08:13] You know, that's fine.

[01:08:14] Yeah.

[01:08:14] There you go.

[01:08:15] And the beauty of it is, like, you can obviously tell, like, the Rangers are, I think they're done.

[01:08:21] I think they're done for a while.

[01:08:22] I'm not saying they're never, they're not going to make a playoff for the next four or five years, but they're not going to be.

[01:08:26] Their window has slammed shut.

[01:08:28] But, like, I thought what was going to happen to Washington happened to the Rangers.

[01:08:34] You know, I really thought that Washington was going to be that team that just couldn't get out of their own fucking way this year.

[01:08:39] I actually picked them to be last in the Metro.

[01:08:41] How fucking stupid is that?

[01:08:43] On the other hand, I did pick the Detroit Red Wings to become last in the Atlantic.

[01:08:47] And Bobby looked at me like I was fucking crazy.

[01:08:49] And that seems like it's a good pick.

[01:08:52] Yeah, they're a fucking train wreck, too.

[01:08:53] Yeah, they are.

[01:08:54] If I'm Adam Fox, he's 26 years old.

[01:08:57] You know, he has four years left on his current deal.

[01:08:59] I'm asking to get the fuck out of there.

[01:09:01] Like, because five of their defensemen are up for contract next year, four forwards or five forwards.

[01:09:10] Then they have these absolute anchors just eating up so much money for the next four or five years.

[01:09:15] So if I'm Adam Fox, I'm like, get me the fuck out of here or get rid of some of these guys and bring them better players.

[01:09:21] And don't think for one second that the rift in that locker room isn't also being stemmed from,

[01:09:26] because there were a lot of people on there that wanted Truba to stick around, that didn't like the way that he was being treated.

[01:09:31] And then you went and you dump him off like he's, you know, yesterday's garbage.

[01:09:36] And you use that money to sign Igor Shisirkin, who is supposed to be your, you know, savior.

[01:09:43] And he's not playing well at all.

[01:09:46] If you're in that locker room and your buddy that just got treated like shit.

[01:09:50] So this dude could get paid.

[01:09:52] And now this dude is letting the fucking team down.

[01:09:55] It's just like you said, ripple effect.

[01:09:57] That's a, that's a real bad ripple.

[01:09:58] And again, it's not just getting paid.

[01:10:00] Fine.

[01:10:00] Get paid.

[01:10:01] Get fairly paid.

[01:10:02] He went exploded way above that.

[01:10:04] So there's gotta be animosity about that.

[01:10:06] There has to be.

[01:10:12] Yeah.

[01:10:13] And nobody could tell me why this guy deserved more money than Connor Hollibuck.

[01:10:17] I've said it since the last spring.

[01:10:19] Why does he deserve more money than Connor Hollibuck?

[01:10:22] He has an absolutely, there's no reason why he would have.

[01:10:26] And what is it?

[01:10:27] $4 million difference?

[01:10:28] The only factor was a little bit, a little bit of macroeconomics where you can say inflationary and blah, blah, blah.

[01:10:34] So it ticks up a little bit, not four or 5 million more, whatever ridiculous number it was.

[01:10:39] It's, it's yeah.

[01:10:40] Makes no sense.

[01:10:41] It's a terrible car.

[01:10:42] It's going to be an absolutely terrible contract.

[01:10:45] It really is.

[01:10:45] He himself will probably bounce back and have some great years still.

[01:10:48] I think, I think the great goalie is still in there, but a great goalie on a shitty team doesn't mean anything.

[01:10:53] Yeah.

[01:10:54] No, it doesn't matter how good he is.

[01:10:56] If his defense blows and they have no structure and they have no discipline, he's going to get lit up for four or five, six every night.

[01:11:02] I don't care how good you are.

[01:11:04] I'm going to enjoy the shit out of that.

[01:11:06] Yeah.

[01:11:07] You need, you need, you need your defense and goalie are so inextricably connected.

[01:11:13] And so like, like intertwined that you need them to be working well together.

[01:11:18] And they're just not like, you can't have a bunch of turnstiles for date and expect your goalie to go at a billiard every game.

[01:11:26] And you can't expect a rock solid defense to, to play in front of a, of a fucking traffic cone and net.

[01:11:32] Like it just, it just doesn't work that way.

[01:11:34] No.

[01:11:35] I used to use traffic cone.

[01:11:37] Straight up.

[01:11:38] Couldn't fucking score on that thing.

[01:11:40] Couldn't score on that thing.

[01:11:41] And I think the, the, the more, the more that, that dysfunction and, and that team just gets more and more down the drains, their fan base is getting fucking crazier and crazier.

[01:11:54] It is like, they're, they're so reactive to everything, especially the devils.

[01:12:00] Like they're so easy to trigger them.

[01:12:02] I mean, my God, like they, I don't know, man.

[01:12:06] That's like, even when we were doing so good, I hated losing to the Rangers.

[01:12:10] Like we did last year, but like, it wasn't, I didn't go after their fans.

[01:12:15] I wasn't like, these people are so visceral.

[01:12:17] Their, their hatred towards us is so visceral.

[01:12:20] It's like, I don't get it.

[01:12:22] I just don't understand how that, like it used to be.

[01:12:25] Was it always like that?

[01:12:26] Or is it just me?

[01:12:27] Like how nasty and fucking crazy these guys have gotten.

[01:12:30] I just think that we've run out of time talking about the Rangers.

[01:12:33] Cause now they're all just going to sit here saying that we're in their heads.

[01:12:36] Oh, it's just a lot of fun.

[01:12:38] And if Ranger fans are listening to this, then, you know, I'll happily talk about the Rangers.

[01:12:44] I definitely think about them.

[01:12:45] They're a rival.

[01:12:46] They pretend like they don't think about us, but meanwhile, they're looking over the river.

[01:12:49] Kind of like, Hey, what are those guys doing?

[01:12:51] Yeah.

[01:12:51] And that's true.

[01:12:52] Like they love to tell, Oh yeah, we live in your head.

[01:12:55] Come on.

[01:12:55] Every fucking Ranger fan just looks at the devils and why don't we have Jack Hughes?

[01:13:01] My God.

[01:13:01] Now they got his fucking brother too.

[01:13:03] Now they got, you know, Nico.

[01:13:05] He's sure like, come on.

[01:13:06] They would love to have these guys on their team.

[01:13:08] Yeah.

[01:13:09] You know, it's fantastic.

[01:13:11] Yeah.

[01:13:12] All right.

[01:13:13] At least their fan base isn't a bunch of racist and anti-Semites, like another fan base.

[01:13:18] Hold on.

[01:13:19] Before you ask, ask that question, Chris, let me just tell Tim the answer.

[01:13:22] Tim, the answer is no.

[01:13:23] Ready?

[01:13:23] Go ahead, Chris.

[01:13:24] I didn't see that from Carolina.

[01:13:26] That's really disappointing.

[01:13:27] Like they got really like that with Amanda Stein.

[01:13:30] Yeah.

[01:13:30] I make fun of her stupid questions as she asks, but Jesus Christ.

[01:13:34] They were nicks.

[01:13:35] Yeah.

[01:13:35] Yeah.

[01:13:35] They're, they're, they're, it's just, it's bad.

[01:13:38] And it's, you know, to your point about whether that vitriol has always been there between the

[01:13:41] fan bases, I think it's obviously been exacerbated by social media and Twitter.

[01:13:46] And then just, just people kind of taking free reign now being able to hide behind nameless,

[01:13:52] faceless accounts and just be able to say whatever the fuck they want.

[01:13:55] What's so discouraging about that is that there's that many people out there that feel that way.

[01:14:00] Like, even if I can sit behind my nameless, faceless account, like I would never want to be that way towards somebody.

[01:14:07] Like the fact that this is where you're going, like that says a lot about you.

[01:14:12] You know what I mean?

[01:14:12] Literally I'm one of five that can post on our behalf as uncle puckers.

[01:14:17] And I still don't do that shit.

[01:14:19] Right.

[01:14:19] I can literally hide.

[01:14:20] Yeah.

[01:14:21] I wouldn't be like that.

[01:14:23] Yeah.

[01:14:23] Like I, like I talk, I talk shit, you know, but I use my real face and my real name.

[01:14:27] And if people want to come in and say stuff to me, like whatever.

[01:14:30] We've asked you repeatedly to save that good creative shit for the uncle puckers, but no.

[01:14:34] You need to give me the login though.

[01:14:37] So we've also told you that if you do anything for the uncle puckers to not use your real face, please.

[01:14:43] It's bad enough.

[01:14:44] We already have your real name.

[01:14:46] I'm the fucking best looking person here.

[01:14:47] Get the fuck out of here.

[01:14:48] That's yeah.

[01:14:49] I'll give them that.

[01:14:50] I don't.

[01:14:50] First of all, my grandmother says I'm very charming and handsome.

[01:14:54] So that's not what she tells me.

[01:14:55] She told me the same thing.

[01:14:58] By the way, where's, where's your wife with my sandwich?

[01:15:02] Great callback cut.

[01:15:03] Can we just, can we just give props to my Vikings?

[01:15:08] This is, this is a big, this is a big game.

[01:15:11] You got the, you got the number one seed, right?

[01:15:14] Not yet.

[01:15:15] Not yet?

[01:15:16] Not yet.

[01:15:16] Yeah.

[01:15:17] Go Vikings.

[01:15:18] Go Vikings.

[01:15:19] Next Sunday it is for all the marbles.

[01:15:22] The Detroit Lions won Vikings at the Lions and that's it.

[01:15:26] Is that a regular window or is it like Sunday at Sunday night?

[01:15:29] They haven't come out with the schedule for next weekend yet because there's some games

[01:15:34] Saturday, some games Sunday.

[01:15:36] So I would assume since that game is the most important game of the weekend that that's

[01:15:42] probably going to be, I would say Sunday night.

[01:15:45] They might move that one to like, yeah, they might flex that one to like eight o'clock or

[01:15:49] eight 15, whatever.

[01:15:50] Those rules are a little weird.

[01:15:53] Like, you know, because of it's like a Fox game, Fox can protect it and it depends on

[01:15:56] if NBC like flexed the game earlier in the year or something like that.

[01:16:00] They can only do like one or.

[01:16:01] Yeah, exactly.

[01:16:02] I remember when they came out with all that and wrote up those rules.

[01:16:05] I was like, oh, that's actually a pretty smart system that they came up with.

[01:16:08] Well, that's why, because the Vikings Green Bay game was on Fox today and they had flexed

[01:16:15] a Viking game already this year that they couldn't, they wanted to originally flex this game to

[01:16:21] Sunday night and they couldn't because of the stuff you're saying.

[01:16:24] They weren't able to, but I think it'll probably be a Sunday night game.

[01:16:29] I really hope it's not a Saturday game because like the three games that are on Saturday,

[01:16:34] it's sad.

[01:16:34] This game's too important.

[01:16:35] This game is for number one seed in the NFC.

[01:16:38] Whoever wins this game has a first round by and home field throughout the playoffs.

[01:16:44] So it's either the NFC championship road to New Orleans and that Super Bowl goes through

[01:16:49] Detroit or it goes through Minneapolis.

[01:16:51] There's no other way.

[01:16:52] It's awesome.

[01:16:52] And the loser.

[01:16:53] Or it goes through Baltimore.

[01:16:55] And the, well, the NFC, I said the loser, and they don't have the home field anyway.

[01:17:01] That's a Kansas city already has it.

[01:17:02] So it goes through Missouri.

[01:17:05] But I'm just telling you that.

[01:17:08] But you're in school.

[01:17:10] Fuck you guys.

[01:17:11] I'm going home.

[01:17:12] Football school with Chris.

[01:17:14] Fuck you, buddy.

[01:17:15] The loser.

[01:17:17] The loser has to fucking play the playoffs on the road.

[01:17:20] Like there's going to be a team that won 14 games in the regular season.

[01:17:26] And they're going to have to play every playoff game on the road.

[01:17:30] So it's like, that's crazy.

[01:17:31] It's never been done that a team lost for one,

[01:17:34] 14 games and had to start the playoffs on the road.

[01:17:36] You know, that's pretty cool for football though.

[01:17:37] That's a lot of intrigue right there.

[01:17:39] You know, with teams with that good of a record and that much is at stake.

[01:17:42] Yeah, it's going to be awesome.

[01:17:44] Oh man, you just said steak.

[01:17:46] I'm fucking starving.

[01:17:47] All right.

[01:17:48] I'm going to go eat.

[01:17:50] And anything else guys before we wrap it up?

[01:17:54] Okay.

[01:17:55] Bobby's done?

[01:17:56] No.

[01:17:56] Cut it.

[01:17:57] All right.

[01:17:58] Nope.

[01:17:59] Nope.

[01:17:59] I've learned my lesson.

[01:18:01] You sure?

[01:18:02] I want to talk about the 95 playoff run.

[01:18:04] I'm the guy that knew like, I have one last question.

[01:18:08] All right.

[01:18:09] Well, we are a minute, almost a minute 20.

[01:18:11] So yeah, we're going to wrap it up.

[01:18:12] Thanks guys.

[01:18:12] If you're sticking around with us, checking, listening,

[01:18:15] please let us know what you think Devils should do at the trade deadline.

[01:18:19] Cause I guess that's probably going to be our next big subject to talk

[01:18:22] about and, uh, and speculate about possibly even recklessly.

[01:18:27] So that's going to be fun.

[01:18:29] Can't wait for that.

[01:18:29] And, uh, yeah, we'd love to, uh, keep it coming devilish poet.

[01:18:33] We absolutely love you.

[01:18:35] Um, wherever you're listening to us, like a five-star review,

[01:18:37] a positive comment, uh, download subscription helps a little podcast

[01:18:43] We are the uncle puckers and we'll see you when we see you.

[01:18:46] Bye-bye.

[01:18:47] Make me a sandwich.

[01:18:48] Bella cat.

[01:18:49] Nice.

[01:18:52] I love it.
